She was always very close to her dad, finding a similar sense of security again is truly a blessing.
On multiple occasions, actress and philanthropist Priyanka Chopra has revealed that her parents were very supportive of her career and ambitions. She is extremely close to her mother and was equally close to her father, who she declares is the hero of her life. The actress, who had famously tattooed "daddy's lil girl" on her wrist, lost her father six years ago and if her Instagram posts are anything to go by, she still misses him dearly.
Talking about her father's passing she told Filmfare, "I still had a lot of negative feelings. I felt abandoned, I was angry and there were lot of feelings that I had and didn’t know what to do with them." Adding to this chain of thoughts she later explained to Vogue, that "Instead of mourning the person you have lost, you celebrate the life that was lived."
Now Chopra is happily married to one of the Jonas Brothers, Nick Jonas and she believes, in some ways, she has got back the comfort and security she thought was lost. While theirs was a whirlwind romance, that sparked much media frenzy, the foundation of the relationship is shared values and mutual respect.
In fact, Chopra has recently revealed that she finds a lot of similarities between Nick and her father. "I always tell him that [he reminds me of my father]," Chopra disclosed. "I feel like my mother manifested him in my life. And you know, they always say that girls end up marrying someone who's like your father, and Nick is. He's someone who’s the life of a party," Harper's Bazaar quoted the Quantico actress.
"He'll always have friends around him, he'll make people laugh, super thoughtful, conscientious, kind. I do feel like I ended up marrying a version of my dad."
"I really feel like being with someone like my husband now, there's such an incredible power, and it's so attractive to me that he feels empowered when he sees me empowered," she explained.
"He'll stand on a carpet on the side and watch when they’re taking pictures. He'll, like, want to see things I've done. Like, he feels so proud. We wrote five things that we love about each other. And the first thing he said was, 'Your ambition'. I've never heard a guy say that."

Chopra had once said a similar thing about her dad. "My dad was my biggest cheerleader," she told Vogue India. "Any awards show, he would be my date. Every time I won anything, he’d be like, 'Yeah!' as if he’d won. I was like, 'Dad, just turn it down by 10.' He enjoyed my achievements more than I did."
And Nick has brought that joy and encouragement back in her life.
Chopra has remained tight-lipped about her previous relationships although she did speak about going through heartbreaks and how no man had ever encouraged her and appreciated her as Nick does. Now that she has got some stability in her relationship, perhaps the wound of her dad's passing will heal better. Although one can never really get over the pain of losing a parent.
Their love story started back in 2017, and when both the celebs showed up at the Met Gala together, it sparked much anticipation amongst both their fans. They did not open up about their new romance until they announced their engagement. This is another instance that shows that theirs is a modern-day romance, but when it comes to values or taking serious steps to solidify the relationship, they are on the same page.
The first time Nick met Priyanka, it was at a party. He knew it was a special bond from the first moment so he got down on one knee in front of everyone and said, "you are real, where have you been all my life?" This marked the beginning of a whirlwind romance, which then culminated into two grand wedding ceremonies honoring both their cultures.
As the couple enters their second year of marriage this year, we wish them all the best for the future!
