Holmes has raised Suri pretty much by herself ever since her divorce from Tom Cruise, who hasn't seen his daughter in years.
As a parent, seeing our children grow up into beautiful humans can be an emotional process. There are many firsts that we encounter with our children and they are all moments that we can commit to memory. Being a single parent can be a challenging journey but there are some people who make it look fulfilling and easy, even if they have had difficult lives.
Katie Holmes, 42, is the mother of one and she keeps her daughter, Suri, close to her. She is also a proud and protective mom, who has kept her child safe from media scrutiny. However, when it comes to her baby's special day, she always makes sure to share photos that show their lovely bond. Suri Cruise, whom Holmes shares with ex-husband Tom Cruise, recently turned 15 and her mom used the occasion to show how much she loves her.
The actress shared adorable black and white photos, which included one where she was holding her daughter close. In another photo, the duo wore matching plaid outfits as her daughter gave her a hug. "Happy 15th Birthday Sweetheart! I love you!!!!!!!! ❤️💕😘," Holmes captioned the photos. "I can't believe you are already 15!"
The actress has had to raise her daughter mostly by herself as reports suggest that Cruise has hardly seen her daughter since the divorce in 2012. Holmes and her daughter live in New York but her ex-husband doesn't. Hollywood Life reported in 2019 that the Mission Impossible star has been trying to have a bond with his daughter.
"As challenging as things have become for him and his daughter, he still loves her," the insider shared. “[He] thinks about her all the time and will recognize that she is becoming a teenager and a young woman on her [13th birthday]. Tom never intended to be estranged from his daughter when he decided to have a family with Katie and looks forward to repairing the relationship one day," they had said back then.
While Cruise has not been seen with his daughter since 2013, he has previously shown what kind of a father he is. When Suri was born in 2006, he was quoted as saying, "I always said to myself that my children would be able to depend on me and I would always be there for them and love them—that I’d never make a promise to my kids that I couldn’t keep. I’m not one of those people who believe you can spoil a child with too much love. You can never give a child too much love. There’s just no way."
Unfortunately, his religion got in the way of their relationship. He is reportedly "not allowed" to have a relationship with his biological daughter as she is not part of Scientology Church, as per Us Weekly. He does have a close relationship with his two other kids, Isabella and Connor — both Scientologists as well, whom he adopted with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.
Cruise's career has been on an all-time high with a sequel of Top Gun also in the making. Meanwhile, the Dawson's Creek alum and Suri stayed and quarantined in New York City in 2020. Holmes revealed some scarce details about her life with her child in 2020, as per The Daily Mail.
"I like to keep her out of my interviews, but I will say that this time of quarantine has been such a lesson,” Holmes explained to the outlet. She said that living at home in quarantine has changed her perspective. "Just really looking at everything you have and celebrating the simplicity of making dinner and [spending] that time together," the Batman Begins star said. She added that she feels very blessed. "When I think about my life, I feel very blessed. I have felt very lucky and I rely on my instincts a lot but I also forgive myself for mistakes," she added.
