Queen Elizabeth wants her daughter-in-law, Camilla, to be known as the Queen Consort.

The Queen confirmed her wish on February 5, 2022, for Prince Charles' wife to get the title when her husband eventually becomes King, according to PEOPLE. Queen Elizabeth, 95, made her feelings known in a message timed to the eve of her Accession Day that this year marks the 70th anniversary of her becoming Monarch, making her the first member of the royal family to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.

Since national celebrations will be held in June 2022, the Queen opted to spend the day in a quiet manner at the Sandringham estate, adds BBC

She writes that "when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service."

When Camilla married Charles in 2005, it was said that she would be known as Princess Consort. However, the Queen's intervention is a significant one as it indicates that Camilla will be crowned alongside her husband when the time comes.

Robert Lacey, historian and royal commentator, said, "This was the big remaining question mark and it has now been resolved, and any consent from the Prime Minister of the day for the title is a formality." Lacey added, "Some people might have thought she would look backwards over her reign with this message, but she was in fact looking forwards in a positive way."

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Prince of Wales says the couple is "touched and honored by Her Majesty's words." Also, Prince Charles himself released a statement to mark the occasion, adds PEOPLE

"On this historic day, my wife and I join you all in congratulating Her Majesty The Queen on the remarkable achievement of serving this nation, the Realms and Commonwealth for 70 years."

"The Queen's devotion to the welcare of all her people inspires still greater admiration with each passing year," he continued.

Then, referring to the Queen's assertion late Saturday that it was her hope that Camilla would be titled Queen Consort when the time came for Charles to be King, Charles wrote, "We are deeply conscious of the honour represented by my mother's wish. As we have sought together to serve and support Her Majesty and the people of our communities, my darling wife has been my own steadfast support throughout."

As for the festivities in June, an entire weekend has been planned out to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Starting on June 2, the events will include Trooping the Colour (the annual public festivities for the Queen's birthday), the lighting of Platinum Jubilee beacons, a service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul's Cathedral, the Derby at Epsom Downs, a live concert called "Platinum Party at the Palace," the Big Jubilee Lunch and the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
