Michael B Jordan shot to global fame after his role in the Marvel movie "Black Panther" and he's been soaring higher since then.
Every year, People magazine announces who they have picked as their sexiest man alive and this year as well, they haven't disappointed readers. The magazine has been picking out the sexiest man of the year for the past 35 years and this time, it's someone young and almost new. For the last two years, the magazine has picked an attractive actor or artist of color for their cover and this year was no different.
Michael B Jordan at age 33 is one of the young ones who made it to the list. The actor enthralled us with his performance in Black Panther and there is no going back for him. In 2013, the then-26-year-old actor was featured in People's first annual "Ones to Watch" portfolio for his critically acclaimed performance in Fruitvale Station. Six years later, he's on top of the ladder.
"It's a cool feeling," he tells People. "You know, everybody always made that joke, like, ‘Mike, this is the one thing you’re probably not going to get.' But it’s a good club to be a part of."
Jordan grew up in Newark, N.J. His family includes his parents, Donna and Michael A., along with his brother, Khalid, and sister, Jamila. The ambitious actor has attributed his success to his family. "My mom and dad sacrificed so much to provide for my sister, brother and me," he says. "I'm just grateful. Honestly, it’s like they all have had such an impact on me and who I am and how I approach each day. Without that, a lot of things about me just wouldn’t be the same. So it all comes back to that foundation. I’m really thankful for that."
The actor is single at 33 and revealed that he started believing in himself after "fully realizing that you can’t make everybody happy." "You could have all the good intentions in the world, and you’ll still get controversy or some type of negativity thrown your way," he says. "Sometimes you’ve just got to trust the universe, you know? You’ve got to just believe in yourself and do what you feel is really right. I think that adds up," he added.
Many have wondered why he remains single despite all the attention he must be getting, and there is a good reason for that. "I'm very mature and advanced in a lot of areas of life. Dating may not be one of 'em. My personal life is not. I don't really know what dating is," he told GQ magazine.
His profession is a big part of why he doesn't date, he says. "I could meet you, right now, boom, right here. Me and you sitting here chilling, whatever. Meal, whatever. Somebody could be over there, see this. And all of a sudden, you're my girl now," he tells the interviewer. He worries about the lack of privacy that comes with the job. He presents a hypothetical situation, "So then they're going to talk about you, they're going to find out who you are. They're gonna find out what your Instagram is, they're going to find us in that. And all the fan club and everybody else is going to find out who you are, and now you and I are forever associated with one another. So now, how do you go anywhere normal, chill, just getting to know somebody that you just met, that you may not—may or may not—hit it off at all? That part of dating is tough."
He added, "Now, I'm not saying options aren't there. I'm not saying that. But as far as, like, the nuance of dating, it's just not the same. I'm just going to keep trying to work on myself and build this empire."
He also fears that he would end up "being alone" without having "what my mom and dad have because the times are so different and my circumstances." However, the young actor doesn't want to "work less". "So the more I work, the more, you know, seen or known you are, you know the more you’re sought after and you know the less genuine people you run across," he revealed, as per Essence.
