Witherspoon, 47, and Toth, 52, said the "difficult decision" to divorce came after "a great deal of care and consideration."
Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth have made the painful decision to part ways and end their 12-year marriage. The Oscar winner and her talent-agent husband, 52, announced their decision in a joint statement just days before their 12-year wedding anniversary. "We have some personal news to share... It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce," they said.
"We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together," the statement added. The couple is determined to focus on the well-being of their 10-year-old son, Tennessee James. "Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter," they continued. "These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone's respect for our family's privacy at this time."

Sources say that the couple is moving forward positively and hold no grudges against each other. An insider told PEOPLE, "They really are the best of friends and this is such an amicable decision. They are so committed to co-parenting together. They are invested in their whole family and making this as smooth as possible for everyone."

Despite ending things amicably, Witherspoon is heartbroken that she is going through yet another divorce. She was previously married to Cruel Intentions co-star Ryan Phillippe and shares two kids with him— daughter Ava, 23, and son Deacon, 19. The two got married in June 1999 and announced their breakup in 2006. Reese also dated Rendition (2007) co-star, Jake Gyllenhaal, for a while before splitting in 2009. That's when she met Toth, then a talent agent, at a party at a mutual friend's house.
Witherspoon and Toth first announced their engagement in December 2010, and they later wed in March 2011 in a laid-back ceremony on her ranch in Ojai. On their 10th wedding anniversary, she paid tribute to her partner saying, "Celebrating 10 years of marriage to my sweet hubby. What a special day with all of our dear friends. Looking back, I can’t believe it has gone so quickly! I guess that’s how it goes with 3 kids, Big LOVE, lots of laughing, non-stop travel, so many dogs, and fun adventures... figuring out this crazy world together. Here’s to many more days in the sun! I ❤️ you, JT."

Witherspoon is now having a hard time dealing with the end of her relationship. A source told PEOPLE that the Walk The Line actress "is obviously disappointed and upset. She never saw herself getting another divorce. They love Tennessee and this is their focus. They will continue to co-parent amicably. There is no drama." The insider pointed out that their relationship moved quickly and that the actress was initially "thrilled by his attention and excited to marry him" but noted "they are two very different people though. Reese is headstrong and focused. Although very hard-working, Jim is more laidback." Although it's been "very difficult" for the actress the two agreed in the end that "this was right for them."
