Nobody gets married thinking that they would get divorced one day. However, circumstances can turn sour, and we might realize after tying the knot that we're not with the right person at all. Finding the right life partner can be a difficult process and one which people might take decades to complete. Some people don't find the right person even until the end. But, that doesn't mean that we should put our life on hold. While it's great to be single until you find the right person, playing the field with good people can be equally rewarding.
Actress Renee Zellweger had shocked Hollywood in 2005 when she married country singer Kenney Chesney on St. John in the Virgin Islands, where he owned a home in Peter Bay. "It's a quick, surprise wedding, kind of a shocker for all of us here in Hollywood who did not see it coming," correspondent Mark Steins of Entertainment Tonight had said 15 years ago, as per ABC News. "We do know that it was a very short romance," he said. "They first met during the NBC tsunami telethon, where Renée was manning the phones and Kenny was performing, and they caught each other's eye and the rest, as they say, is history."
The Judy actress had Chesney at "hello" when he saw her in Jerry Maguire. "When she [Renee] said that [dialogue] in the movie, it was like instant. I said, 'That could be a wonderful song,'" he reportedly said back in 1999. But, they met only in January 2005, just four months before getting married. Their whirlwind love started at the January 15, 2005 tsunami benefit.
Back then, she had broken up with Jack White, lead singer of The White Stripes, only eight months before she started dating Chesney. She had also been linked to Jim Carrey, with whom she starred in the 2000 comedy, Me, Myself & Irene.
However, the Bridget Jones' Diary actress' marriage with Chesney didn't last long and they ended up getting an annulment in just four months. She thought that she had found her dream man, someone who loved music as much as she did, but it came undone when she was around 36. She cited fraud in court papers, as per ABC News. But, she added that it wasn't a reflection of his character.
"I would personally be very grateful for your support in refraining from drawing derogatory, hurtful, sensationalized or untrue conclusions and greatly appreciate your understanding that we hope to experience this transition as privately as possible," a statement from her reps had said, as per PEOPLE.
In another statement, the former couple had said that the "miscommunication of the objective of their marriage at the start is the only reason for this annulment. Renée and Kenny value and respect each other and are saddened that their different objectives prevent the success of this marriage." Zellweger added that she wants "to maintain the integrity of our privacy by not commenting on the specifics of our decision."
The 51-year-old has been never gotten married again. She was in one public and long relationship, with actor Bradley Cooper, but that too crumbled soon. Zellweger met Cooper in 2009 on the set of Case 39 and they dated each other for two years before calling it quits.
She also did a hard reset in her life when she took five years away from the industry. "I’d call it a necessary reset. I needed to step away for a second so that I could see what life looks like at this stage," she had said.
It is believed that she dated another musician, Doyle Bramhall II, who is also a songwriter and producer from 2012 to May 2019, as per Yahoo! Many sources reported that they split the year she made her big comeback. She has devoted herself to her career entirely since then and won her second Oscar in 2020 for portraying Judy Garland in a biopic.
