A huge age gap in romantic relationships invites unwanted comments from people, but what is more important in a relationship is honesty, love, and mutual respect. We tend to forget that love is love and two adults in love are not bound by the limits of age, height, weight, etc.
This kind of love and relationship is demonstrated by some celebrity couples. One such couple is Richard Gere, 73, and his wife, Alejandra Silva, 40, who have proved that despite their 35-year age difference, their love is no different from anyone else. Ever since they got married in 2018, the two of them have been living their happily ever after.
Gere and Silva first met in Positano in 2014, when the Pretty Woman star came to stay in Alejandra's family-owned hotel, according to Hello! Magazine.
"A friend introduced us, we looked at each other and felt a very strong connection. We couldn't stop looking at each other all night, and since then we haven't been apart," said Silva, recalling the first time they ever met.
Gere and Silva were both going through divorce proceedings when they first met, and she spoke about their first meeting, explaining: "Love stories with a complicated beginning, where you have to overcome difficulties together, can bring you closer... I'm sure I did [have some doubts] at some point. In the beginning, he was more convinced than me. But from very early on, we felt that we were destined to be together."
After that, they soon began dating, and in 2018, they legally became man and wife, after Gere proposed to her. They exchanged vows in a romantic ceremony on Richard's ranch outside New York City. The bride and groom arrived in a tuk-tuk into the property which was transformed into an Indian-inspired fantasy adorned with tents from Jaipur and Tibetan flags.
As for Gere, he was just on cloud 9 after getting married to Silva. "I'm the happiest man in the universe," he claimed. "How could I not be? I'm married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who's fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who's a great cook – and who makes the best salads in the world!" he added.
“He is the most humble, sensitive, affectionate, attentive, funny, generous man that I’ve ever met. What can I say? I’m so in love!" Silva said. "How would you feel if each morning you were asked, ’What would make you happy today?’ Not a day goes by that he doesn’t mention how important I am to him. I feel very lucky.” She shared what ties them together in marriage by saying, "What has united us the most is our desire to help other people who need it, our commitment to Buddhism and the Tibetan people."
A year after their marriage, the couple welcomed their first child in 2019. They also had a second child in April 2020, per a USA TODAY report.
As for their significant age gap, Silva says there are times when she finds it hard to keep up with Gere. "He has promised me at least 20 good years! I have to confess that he has much more energy than me; he's much more active."
"I find it hard to keep up with him," she admitted.
Honestly, age plays no significance when it comes to finding love. Trust me, your special someone is definitely out there, all you need to do is wait for them to cross paths with you!
