The 'Pretty Woman' actor had shown no fear in becoming a dad again late in life and was more than ready for it.
Congratulations are in order to actor Richard Gere and his wife, Alejandra Silva, who have welcomed their second child together, a boy. The couple is reportedly at their ranch in Pound Ridge, outside of New York, as per Hello! Magazine. The couple had welcomed their first child together, one-year-old Alexander, in February 2019. They have been married since early April 2018.
Gere, who has become a dad for the third time, has a 20-year-old son, Homer James Jigme Gere, with ex-wife Carey Lowell. Silva, who was also previously married, has a son with ex-husband, Govind Friedland.
Silva and Gere had met in 2014 at a luxury Italian boutique hotel she had bought with Friedland. They were introduced by a friend and had an immediate connection. "We looked at each other and felt a very strong connection. We couldn't stop looking at each other all night, and since then we haven't been apart," she told Hello! Magazine.
She had previously opened up about how the Pretty Woman star had wooed her. He kept sending her flowers until she agreed to date him and even now he regularly writes songs for her. "I feel like I'm in a true fairytale," the 37-year-old businesswoman said. "Without a doubt, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world… What could be more romantic than a man who writes you songs every day?"
She feels truly appreciated and heard by Gere. Instead of focusing on their age gap, they focus on making each other happy. "He is the most humble, sensitive, affectionate, attentive, funny, generous man that I've ever met. What can I say? I'm so in love! How would you feel if each morning you were asked, 'What would make you happy today?' Not a day goes by that he doesn't mention how important I am to him. I feel very lucky."
Their love's foundation is that they went through a hard time in their personal lives around the same time. They were able to share their struggles with each other and grow stronger. They met in Positano, Italy when both of them were going through their divorce proceedings.
"Love stories with a complicated beginning, where you have to overcome difficulties together, can bring you closer... I'm sure I did [have some doubts] at some point. In the beginning, he was more convinced than me. But from very early on, we felt that we were destined to be together," she added.
Gere didn't just portray romantic roles on screen but is a romantic himself in real life too, his wife revealed. When he wanted to ask her to marry him, he took her to the most romantic hotel and that too on her birthday. "This was really a private moment, just for the two of us, but what I can tell you is that he asked me to marry him in the most romantic hotel I've been to, in St Paul de Vence [in the South of France], on my birthday. I get emotional just remembering it."
Their love is so deep that she converted to Buddhism and moved to New York before they got married on the ranch outside New York City, where they currently live. She opened up about changing her religion and said, "I'll be eternally grateful to him. No doubt about it, thanks to Buddhism my life has changed."
She is now as much a follower of the religion as he is. Gere has a close friendship with the Dalai Lama, the exiled spiritual leader of the religion. The Dalai Lama had also blessed a heavily pregnant Silva and Gere before the birth of their first child.
With positive blessings their way, the couple was more than ready to welcome their first child together. Gere, who is now 70, had said before the birth of Alexander that he was "not at all" worried about becoming a dad at this stage in life. He insisted that he wanted to be a "hands-on dad." They have rarely shared a photo of their first son together but from whatever images they have shared, it seems that they get to spend enough time together.
Congratulations to the family on their new member!
