"I just knew. We didn't even say 'I love you' yet," she recollected.
Riley Keough has largely stayed away from the spotlight to grieve the death of her mom, Lisa Marie Presley, who passed away in January this year. On Wednesday, March 1, the 33-year-old actress made her first major public appearance as a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Riley opened up about her personal and professional life on the show. She discussed her upcoming Amazon Prime series, Daisy Jones & the Six, saying she had a premonition foretelling her role in the series. In another premonition, Riley said she found out that her relationship with her current husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, would be one that lasts, as per PEOPLE.
"I don't see the future, but I know certain things are going to happen," Keough said. "Like when I met my husband, he came out of the gas station on our second date and I thought, 'I'm going to marry him and have kids with him.' " She added, "I just knew. We didn't even say 'I love you' yet."
The couple tied the knot in February 2015 after announcing their engagement the year before.
Lisa's death shocked Riley to her core. However, she stepped up and took charge after her mother's death and the rest of the family appreciated her for ensuring that the funeral went off smoothly without a glitch. As per a source, her entire family was impressed by how she handled the funeral, her mother's will, and custody of her younger half-sisters, per US Magazine. The source added the family expects her to handle a large part of the estate.
The source added, "Everyone's in awe of the strength and courage Riley's showing, but what's also evident here is that she's a born leader who's balanced, levelheaded and someone the family can count on to make the right big-picture calls. Lisa Marie adored her."
Riley and her sisters have inherited the entirety of Graceland, the estate built by Lisa's father, rock icon Elvis Presley. Riley was integral to the process of how the estate was distributed. However, Riley's grandmother, Priscilla Presley, recently contested her late daughter's will, saying Riley was illegally appointed as the estate's trustee.
Her family is not alone in seeing and acknowledging her level-headedness. Riley's fans have also noted how "humble" and "strong" she is amid all the stressful things. One YouTube user commented on her interview saying they would never have been able to handle the situation as Riley has. Another user mentioned, "It's crazy how much she looks like Elvis."
After it was confirmed that Riley and her younger siblings were inheriting Lisa's entire estate, Priscilla took action. She claimed that documents transferring her daughter's estate to her grandchildren had been forged after she found out an addendum to Lisa's will stated that Riley and Benjamin would be the sole trustees, per US Magazine. A source opened up about the situation saying Riley prefers to settle the affair quietly, per ET.
They revealed, "Riley has been mourning the loss of her mother and is heartbroken to have to deal with a trust dispute with a family member. Riley and Priscilla aren't communicating at this time, but have been in communication through lawyers."
The source also revealed that Riley is stressed beyond measure. The legal dispute between her and Priscilla has left her saddened. Meanwhile, she's also shooting her new show. Riley knows her "mother would never want this."
