"I really wanted to be the mom that was there when they got home, drove the carpool, and did all those things," Rita Wilson said.
Actress-singer-producer, Rita Wilson, is reflecting on the true meaning of happiness after being married to Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks for almost 35 years and becoming a mother. According to PEOPLE, Wilson has plenty to be thankful for after flourishing in her five-decade-long career and enduring a long-lasting marriage. "It's being with your family and seeing that everyone is pursuing what they love". She added, "happiness, for me, is equated with gratitude. I don't think you can have happiness without gratitude."
"Every morning I get up, and I say, 'Thank you, God. I'm still here,'" she continued. "I hope that I have many more years ahead of me to create."
Wilson was born and raised in Hollywood and she started her acting career with The Brady Bunch at the age of 16 and also went on to appear in shows like Three's Company and Bosom Buddies, where she first met her future husband Hanks. However, she decided to step back from her demanding career in 1990 when she gave birth to their first child, Chet Hanks, and then Truman Hanks. She is also a stepmother to Colin and Elizabeth, who are Hanks’ children from his previous marriage.
"I slowed down my work because I really wanted to be the mom that was there when they got home, drove the carpool, and did all those things," she says, as per the outlet. "Tom was also working a lot, so we would travel with him. If both of us were working and not at home, my kids would have been affected. I wouldn't call slowing down my career a sacrifice, I would call it a choice."
Wilson took a step back from her life in showbiz and she felt proud just by watching her husband’s career grow during that phase. "If you have someone who is happy for your success, and you're happy for their success, that's not even an issue that comes up," she continues. "You know about schadenfreude when you're happy for someone's failure? Well, there's another concept called freudenfreude, which is when you're happy with someone's success. I live in the freudenfreude. Somebody else's success does not diminish my own," she added. According to Fox News, Wilson went back to acting with Now and Then, Runaway Bride, and Old Dogs but she has also shifted her focus towards a music career and producing.
She will also be serving as the co-producer of her husband Tom Hanks’ upcoming film, A Man Called Otto where their son Truman will also be seen playing the younger version of Hanks’ character. A Man Called Otto will be released in select theaters on December 30 followed by a wide release on January 13.

By the way, I guess you all know that the student at whose feet Indy and Mutt land is Chet Hanks, the son of actor Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.
