"I had the feeling that if I was ever going to be able to make it work with anybody, it was Sheryl," he said.
Rob Lowe is head over heels in love with his wife, Sheryl Berkoff, and is spilling the tea about a happy long-lasting marriage. The 59-year-old actor described the strategy that has sustained his 31-year marriage on the most recent edition of iHeartRadio's Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi. "[Marriage] is hard anywhere, it is not just Hollywood – it's everywhere. Sheryl was and is my best friend,” Lowe told host Bozzi.
“So if you marry for anything other than the fact that is your best friend, you're at a disadvantage from the jump, because that will sustain when the other stuff ebbs and flows," he added. Lowe acknowledged that maintaining the physical chemistry is a crucial component of a successful long-term union. The Unstable actor continued by saying that he thinks that forgiving someone enables a relationship to progress, sharing, "I do believe you need the heat for sure," he shared. "If you don't have the heat – and that's a chemical thing – I mean I still have it with Sheryl, you gotta keep the heat."
"People say marriage takes work. I'm not sure if it takes work, but what it does take is forgiveness, and being really cognizant of what hill you're willing to die on," he added. "That comes and goes too, there are times when you are like, 'Nah.' And then there are times when you are wild for somebody," revealed The Bad Seed actor in the interview when asked about a happy and loving marriage with the love of his life. Lowe and Berkoff have been married since 1991 ever since they got in touch with each other.
They first became acquainted when the two collaborated on Rob's 1990 erotic thriller Bad Influence. The couple today share two grown-up sons, Matthew Edward Lowe, 30, and John Owen Lowe, 28. The West Wing alum celebrated Berkoff's 31st wedding anniversary in July by posting a picture of her on Instagram along with a heartfelt message. The caption read, “Happy 31st Anniversary, baby. Your love has made my world. You are as beautiful, knowledgeable, fascinating, kind, and hilarious as you were so many glorious years ago. Partners in love for life!!” as he penned a beautiful wish alongside his wife’s black and white picture.
The American actor and director had earlier told PEOPLE that ever since their relationship began, he has seen something very unique in Berkoff. "I had the feeling that if I was ever going to be able to make it work with anybody, it was Sheryl," he said as he shared how it felt to be with her.
