It was not a grand birthday bash but a cozy family-only celebration.
The legendary musician Sir Rod Stewart recently celebrated his 78th birthday with his family. It was not a grand birthday bash but a cozy family-only celebration. His son, Liam Stewart took to Instagram to share some precious pictures from the celebration.
These images were not just from the celebration but captured some special moments in the last two months. The carousel of pictures included, Rod and some of his children lounging on a couch and celebrating their father on his special day.
Rod's children came together to show their father love and appreciation. They also went to a soccer match and showed their support for the Celtics.
Rod has eight children from five relationships including Renee Stewart, 30, and Liam, 28, from his second marriage to Rachel Hunter. He also shares Alastair Stewart, 18, and Aiden Stewart, 12, with his current wife, Penny Lancaster.
His fans left several comments on these glimpses into the Stewart family's life. Many fans wished Rod on his birthday, while others said how endearing the posts were. Rod himself made an appearance in his son's comments section with three red hearts. While another fan of Rod wrote, "Looks like a barrel of laughs which is always the way forward 💙 family."
Now, the family celebrates Rod and spends quality time together. But they have also seen tougher days together. In 2000, Rod was diagnosed with cancer. Doctors found a tumor on the singer's thyroid, and he was rushed to surgery a few days later.
Destiny was in Rod's favor, as they detected cancer early, otherwise, Rod may have permanently lost the voice that had made him so famous. He did have some vocal loss after the operation, seeing as the doctors had operated on his neck. But in nine months, he was able to recover.
More battles awaited Rod. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer a few years later, which led to his family joining to support him again. Both cancer scares put life in perspective for the singer. His family stood by his side firmly in both these battles with cancer.
It was only after recovery that Rod opened up about his diagnosis, reported CNN. He revealed his diagnosis at a charity event meant to raise awareness and money for the Prostate Project and European Tour Foundation.
As per Radio and Music, he said at a charity show in September 2019, "Tonight would be a nice night to come out of the closet. Two years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. No one knows this, but I thought this was about time I told everybody. I'm in the clear, now, simply because I caught it early. I have so many tests."
He added, "Guys, you've got to really go to the doctor. If you're positive, you work through it and you keep a smile on your face. I've worked for two years and I've just been happy, and the good Lord looked after me."
After his recovery from the deadly disease, Rod is back in the musical saddle once more. Although recovering his voice was not easy, he is happy to have survived the ordeal.
The musician is actively working to spread awareness about cancer, and he is spending quality time with his family, and he told PEOPLE, "I couldn't ask for anything better."
