Who we grow up to depends on those who raised us to a great extent. Whether you had the nurturing arms of your parents or their harsh words can make a great difference to who you become. For actor Ryan Gosling, who was raised by his mother and older sister, Donna and Mandi Gosling, the upbringing he had meant that he turned out to be a gentleman who knew how to treat the women in his life right. His parents had divorced when he was a child.

In fact, the father-of-two is surrounded by women even now just as he was when he was growing up. The Notebook actor was raised by two strong women and now he lives with his longtime partner, Eva Mendes, and two daughters, Amada and Esmeralda. The influence they had in his life still shows and makes him a better person.

Not all actors are as sensitive and caring as Ryan Gosling and he is one of the few men who believe that women are better than men. He is also not afraid of expressing appreciation for them. "I think women are better than men. They are stronger, more evolved," he told. "You can tell especially when you have daughters and you see their early stages, they are just leaps and bounds beyond boys immediately," said the proud daddy to Vanity Fair.

The La La Land actor is close to his feminine side and has shared with the world about the influence his mom and sister have had on him. "I think like a girl, I think...  I was literally raised by my mother and my sister. And I just feel like I wouldn't know how to think any other way. My sister was my best friend and my hero growing up," he told the Independent.

Gosling became a performer early in life and that led to him getting bullied at school, so he was home-schooled for a year. "Because I was home-schooled I didn't have a lot of friends and I did ballet, which was always just girls. All of that had an effect on my brain," he said. He still practices ballet when he can find the time, which is not often.

The Gangster Squad actor is also aware of the problems that women go through when they are objectified by men. "I grew up with women so I’ve always been aware of it. When my mother and I walked to the grocery store, men would circle the block in cars. It was very, very scary, especially as a young boy. Very predatory—a hunt," said he.

One of the sweetest things he's done is take his mother, Donna, for the premiere of Gangster Squad instead of his partner, Mendes, in 2013 and in 2017, he took his stunning sister, Mandi, to the Academy Awards ceremony since Mendes was home taking care of their two daughters.

At the Golden Globes ceremony, when he won for his performance in La La Land, his speech about his lady love showed how much he valued the efforts she put so he could shine.

"You don't get to be up here without standing on the shoulders of a mountain of people. There's no time to thank everyone. I would like to try to thank one person properly and say while I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I've ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer. If she hadn't have taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today. So sweetheart, thank you," he said, according to Elle.
