Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe were married from 1999 to 2008, and share two children.
Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe may no longer be together, but that doesn't stop them from reuniting to ring in their son, Deacon's 18th birthday, which was on October 23, 2021. When both parents shared a photo with their beloved son on their respective social media accounts, fans couldn't help noticing the uncanny resemblance Deacon had, with both his parents.
Phillippe shared a picture of him and Witherspoon on either side of Deacon on Instagram, with the caption: "Happy 18th birthday to our gorgeous, smart, talented, and caring son. You are a true light in this world and are so loved by all who know you. We are lucky to be your mom and dad. Love you, pup..(I’d say we did pretty good @reesewitherspoon)"
Witherspoon, meanwhile, shared a picture of her son, with a sweet message to him. "How did this happen?!! @deaconphillippe is 18?!! One day he was trading Pokémon cards, singing Bruno Mars songs, and playing American Ninja Warrior in the backyard. The next day, he is taller than me, cooking the family steaks on the grill and making his own music with his best friends. My heart is bursting with pride about the young man he is becoming. Happy 18th Birthday Deacon! I love you to the moon around the sun and all the stars ✨ 🥺❤️🎂"
Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe were married from 1999 to 2008, and many people think the two met while acting together in Cruel Intentions, but according to US Weekly, they'd been living together for a year and a half while they were shooting for the film. The two first met at Witherspoon's 21st birthday party, the actor herself revealed to Jane Magazine, during an interview in 1998.
"I met him at my 21st birthday party. I don't know what came over me - maybe the seven Midori sours - but I told him, 'I think you're my birthday present.' He thought it was so flattering, and now that I think about it...how embarrassing!" They started dating soon, and about a year later, he'd put a ring on it, and made it official.
When they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony, Witherspoon was pregnant with her first child, Ava. Four years later, they welcomed their son. However, they were unable to sustain their marriage and decided to call it quits in 2007. At the time, they said they were both immature. "I think more of the problem was age. When we got together we were so young," Phillippe told Larry King at the time.
“I think it can create issues with two people in this industry because there's so much noise that goes along with it," he added.
Witherspoon seemed to echo her ex-husband's feelings during an interview in 2017. “I got married when I was 23 and I had two kids by the time I was 27," She told ITV’s Lorraine. "So I don’t know, you know, sometimes it’s good to know yourself,” Witherspoon shared.
Honestly, the fact that the two of them dealt with their split in such a mature manner shows just how much they've grown, as people, and as parents. Though. it takes a great deal to set their differences aside and get together for their children, the two of them have been doing it, and sure is a lesson on parenting for the rest of us.
