Previously, Ryan Reynolds was married to Scarlett Johansson. The couple was extremely private about their relationship.
Sometimes the relationships you believed to be the best for you may not work out. But that does not mean you give up on finding love in life again. Ryan Reynolds thought he would never tie the knot again after splitting from Scarlett Johansson. However, life took a different turn and the actor found love again.
Reynolds and Johansson were rumored to be dating in 2007. The couple, who were extremely private about their relationship were seen together and soon their relationship was confirmed. Just a year later, the couple got engaged and got married on 28 September 2008 in a ceremony attended by close friends and family, according to CheatSheet.
The duo made it very clear that they wanted their marriage to be away from the public eye and often spoke of the importance of privacy. "I would never ask somebody about their marriage if I didn't know them. I don't profess to know anything about marriage that anybody else doesn't know, or how to make it right. I don't want to read about somebody who's giving me relationship advice," said Johansson, pertaining to the secretive nature of their relationship.
She continued, "So I try to keep some things for myself, to have a private life. Because that's kind of all you have, really, isn't it? When it comes down to what separates you from the next person. You don't go to work and talk about your marriage. Why should I?" according to EOnline.
Soon, cracks developed in their marriage, and the actress admitted that they hardly had time for each other. Despite it all, both Reynolds and Johansson believed it was imperative to invest in the family in spite of the challenges it brought about. "Like in any profession, it's difficult. You want to make sure you have time to invest in your family. It's a challenge, but it's worth it," said Johansson.
However, the cracks widened and the couple parted ways in 2010. "After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn't expected, it's certainly appreciated," said the couple in a private statement, according to EOnline.
Though the divorce didn't seem messy to the outside world, the couple was devastated. Johansson even called their divorce "horrible." On the other hand, Reynolds told that the media that he was not sure of getting married again.
"Anyone who gets divorced goes through a lot of pain, but you come out of it. I'm not out of it yet. At all. But I sense that as I do come through it, there's optimism. How can there not be? I don't think I want to get married again. But you always re-evaluate these things," said Reynolds, according to Cosmopolitan.
"Any kind of crisis can be good. It wakes you up. I gotta say, I'm a different person than I was six months ago," said the actor, according to EOnline. Meanwhile, Reynolds' life turned upside down soon after the divorce. In October 2011, Reynolds found love again in his Green Lantern co-star Blake Lively.
Within months, Reynolds introduced her to his family, and their relationship went to the next level. In September 2012, the couple surprised everyone by tying the knot. Since then, they have been seen as one of the ideal couples of Hollywood.
The couple often gushes about each other and even takes jibes on each other on social media. They share two children and Reynolds is happier than ever before. "You are the best thing that has ever happened to me … you make everything better, absolutely everything in my life. You've made me the father of my dreams when I thought I only had fun uncle potential," said the proud husband about his wife in 2016, according to Insider. Lively on the other hand calls her husband, her best friend.
