In 2003, Bullock first met Jesse James, and both of them soon realized that they had feelings for each other, according to Closer Weekly. It didn't take long before they took their relationship to the next level, and got married in 2005.

The couple enjoyed marital bliss for a while after their wedding. Bullock even credited James for her success. But their joy was short-lived and their marriage started to fall apart after James was accused of infidelity with multiple women in 2010.

Apparently, James was involved in an 11-month affair with tattoo model Michelle McGee. Unable to take it any longer, Bullock filed for divorce from her husband. She then went on to adopt a son, Louis, shortly after. It was one of the hardest phases of her life, and close friends of the actor reveal she went to hell and beyond. James, too, moved on and remarried.

However, while Bullock and James were married, the two were caught in the midst of a lengthy and taxing custody battle with James's porn star ex-wife, Janine Lindemulder, for their then 5-year-old daughter, Sunny, reports ABC News

When the girl's mother was in prison for tax evasion, it was Bullock who helped raise her. But, when Lindemulder was released from prison, she claimed that she wanted custody of her daughter, and Bullock argued it was not safe to let her back.

In fact, in a letter Bullock wrote to the judge, she shared that the little girl was left alone during the day when the mom was knocked out from drugs. She also revealed that Sunny was the reason the couple decided to hold on having kids of their own.

"I am aware that Janine has claimed many times that my desire to have Sunny was because I could not have children of my own. As difficult as that is for me to hear, and write, it couldn't be farther from the truth. To share the joy of bringing another life into the world with Jesse is something that I desire very much. But we realized that due to the instability in Sunny's life, bringing another child into the world at this time would not be in Sunny's best interest. So that is something we chose to put on hold."

Eventually, Bullock adopted another child, Laila, joining the family in 2015. Now, she considers herself to be a protective mom. Years later, the actress met and fell in love with photographer and model Bryan Randall.
