“I’ve always said one of the reasons we’ve had success is because we don’t talk about our marriage,” Sarah Jessica Parker had said in a previous interview.
Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker have been married for 26 years!
Parker, who celebrated the day with her husband, appreciated him in a sweet Instagram post on May 20, reflecting on their marriage and the years they have spent together, per TODAY. "Happy 26th anniversary my husband," she captioned a photo of a champagne cork. "That sure was a nice celebration and a really nice bottle of champagne. And a gorgeous walk home. Oh, the miles we have strolled together. I love you." She then signed off, "XOX, your SJ."
When speaking about her husband in an interview for Harper's Bazaar's September 2013 issue, Parker was nothing but kind. "I love Matthew Broderick. Call me crazy, but I love him," the Sex and the City 2 star said. "We can only be in the marriage we are. We're very devoted to our family and our lives. I love our life. I love that he's the father of my children, and it's because of him that there's this whole other world that I love."
Parker and Broderick share three children: James Wilkie, 20, and their twin girls, Tabitha and Marion, aged 13. The five-member family frequently keeps their personal lives quiet but shared the stage last year as a married couple in the Broadway drama Plaza Suite. Being in a role where the public was encouraged to inquire about their relationship, according to Broderick, was "a very scary thing."
“I’ve always said one of the reasons we’ve had success is because we don’t talk about our marriage,” Parker told The Hollywood Reporter in the rare joint interview. “I’m not flattering myself that anyone’s discussing my marriage, but we’re certainly not going to add to it by saying, ‘Well, this is why it works.’ Next thing you know, there’ll be a very public divorce. So we just try to respect each other.”
Even though Parker and her husband had been married since 1997, she claimed that before Plaza Suite, they had "never spent this much time together, ever." She said to the outlet, “Even when we were just dating. But it’s a very different kind of time. It’s not like we’re spending more time together talking. We’re spending time together working in an alternate universe. We’re not ourselves. And we don’t always go out together after the show. And now our days are freed up again. So we still have our autonomy during the day. So it’s feeling more kind of like it used to. But it’s been great."
