Some people are night owls while others are early risers, but how many hours you need could be based on astrology.

Some people like to get an early start to the day while others feel most inspired at night. Some of it is genetics but it could partly be your zodiac sign too. If you're one of those who stays up reading a book late into the night or would rather feel refreshed in the morning, the answer could be in astrology. Everyone usually fine-tunes the number of hours they need and the ideal time to fall asleep for themselves over the years, based on a number of factors like age, health, etc.

The number of hours you need for sleeping depends on the position of different particular zodiac signs in your birth chart. For instance, you might not be able to relate to what the recommendation for your sun-sign says, but that just means that the other signs in your birth chart are stronger. Meanwhile, the National Sleep Foundation recommends seven to nine hours of sleep for adults per night and seven to eight hours for older adults (65+). If you would rather listen to your zodiac sign, here is how many hours of sleep you need:

1. Aries

More than 4 hours. Generally, Aries doesn't need a lot of sleep since they are usually focused and energized by inspiration. "If they have something to attack in the morning, they can survive on very little," astrologer Joshua MacGuire told Popsugar. However, if there is nothing firing them up they will need more sleep. It is also possible that many of them suffer from sleep issues, according to Bustle. If that's the case, consider cooling down the room and putting on some calming music to get more hours of snooze time.

2. Taurus

Taurus needs 7-9 hours of sleep ideally, as per Daily Mail. It matters more that they get quality sleep than quantity. If they get too much sleep it can actually ruin their day. However, the sleep time might be something you look forward to since it's your time to relax and unwind. If you have been having difficulties falling asleep, you might also benefit from staying away from electronic devices at night as you are easily addicted to anything.

Geminis spend so much energy during the day that they need some good and long hours of sleep. So, around 8 hours is ideal for them or they would soon feel the burnout, according to Daily Mail. But you might find it hard to fall asleep at night with a million thoughts buzzing in your head. Waking up in the morning could be a difficult task for you since you end up staying awake late into the night.

4. Cancer

Not only do they need 8 hours but they need them at home, in their bed, according to EliteDaily. They are sensitive sleepers and any slight noise or light could disturb them. They most likely have a ritual before going to sleep and having fluffy pillows or a memory foam might be a part of it. They can get quite crabby without a decent amount of shut-eye. Comfy pajamas, candles, and a bath could all be a part of the ritual before going to sleep.

7 or fewer hours of sleep. While they can sleep as much as seven hours, they don't always need it since adrenaline is what calms them. They just need enough sleep to recharge themselves and then they are on the go again. They probably sleep best next to a loved one, according to the Sun UK. These social creatures might find it harder to sleep alone. They prefer being busy most of the day and it's possible that they just plop at the end of the day.

Virgos can work and work and not tire at all. They need 7 hours at least to recharge themselves, according to Popsugar. If you're a Virgo, you're likely to think that sleeping is a waste of time but it's important to catch up on some snooze time if you don't want to crack. If you are up late into the night worried about various things, you could do with some calming sounds or music before you can sleep. It might also take you a long time to fall asleep so you would likely have to be in bed long before you fall asleep.

7. Libra

Librans need a solid 8 hours of sleep because of the balancing act that they are trying to pull constantly. If you're a Libran, you are also the one who vouches for the beauty sleep. It is hard for you to sleep just about anywhere and would rather sleep in your bed after a long day. You are not up for sleeping over at anyone else's home. "As an air sign that's other-person centered, sleep might be the only time they can process their own thoughts and feelings and individuate," MacGuire said.

8. Scorpio

The intense and emotional Scorpio loves to sleep but they might find it hard to come by. "They are born with highly active and intuitive minds which are in super-active mode during night. They are infused with high energy levels during the night," according to Ask my oracle. Their energy keeps them going through the day, but eventually, they need at least 8 hours of sleep in order to rebuild their energy. If you, a Scorpio, are not able to sleep enough at night, you should try to compensate by taking naps during the day or you will have a cranky day.

9. Sagittarius

A Sagittarius always pushes the boundaries to see if they can get away with sleeping as little as possible. They have places to be and things to do usually. The freedom-loving zodiac sign is willing to lose out on sleep to get some more adventure packed into their life but without enough sleep, they will crash and burn. So, 6-7 hours is a must for them or they won't function well.

Ideally, 7-8 hours is the best for them. For this serious and practical sign, sleep is simply something that must be done like a chore. You don't necessarily enjoy it and mostly think of it as an annoying part of the day. You could be one of those signs who face issues falling asleep because of the many worries in your head. For Capricorns, it would be helpful to think of sleep as a necessity and duty that needs to be performed for the rest of the things to fall into place.

11. Aquarius

This Air sign needs a healthy amount of sleep to keep their wits about. So, 7 hours of sleep is a decent number of hours for them. However, their sleep time might start much later in the night than other signs. These signs are likely to be night owls who then oversleep during the day.

12. Pisces

Anything between 9 to 10 hours or no sleep, when inspiration strikes. There is no balance when it comes to sleep for you. You could be found sleeping entire weekends away or staying away doing things in a storm. Your imagination rules you and "without enough dream time, they are prone to want to escape in other ways," Macguire cautioned. You could be lost in daydreams without enough sleep time that would center you to reality.
