For some people, marriage isn't proof of commitment because, for them, love is enough. There aren't many people like that, but the ones we know of make it work well. For instance, Enrique Iglesias and his long-time partner Anna Kournikova. They have been together for 18 years and are parents to one-year-old twins. However, walking down the aisle isn't on the agenda. Another singer who has a similar romantic situation in life is Waka Waka singer Shakira. She has been with her soccer star partner, Gerard Pique, for over a decade but tying the knot is not a priority for them.

They met in 2010 on the set of her Waka Waka music video, which she sang for the 2010 FIFA World cup, in Madrid. Their romance began there and it is still going strong. Parents to Milan, 6, and Sasha, 4, and with an age gap of 10 years between them, their love hasn't changed. Shakira, 42, and Gerard, 32, have been together since then. While they keep their relationship private, there have been times when the She Wolf singer opened up about her relationship.

The first time she saw him, she didn't know who he was. "I wasn't a soccer fan so I didn't know who he was. But when I saw the video, I was like, 'Hmm. That one's kind of cute.' (Laughs) And then someone decided to introduce us," she told CBS's 60 Minutes.

When the interviewer Bill Whitaker said, "For all intents and purposes, you— you two are married", Shakira was the first to say that they're not. She doesn't want her partner to see them as a married couple. "To tell you the truth, marriage scares...me. I don't want him to see me as the wife. I'd rather him see me as his girlfriend... His lover, his girlfriend. It's like a little forbidden fruit, you know? I wanna keep him on his toes. I want him to think that anything's possible depending on behavior," she added.

While she wants to ensure that there is always spice in the relationship, she's also a committed partner. She moved to Spain from Colombia for him. Gerard used to play for the Spanish national soccer team until 2018, after which he retired. He now plays for the team FC Barcelona. Together, they have been named by Forbes Magazine as one of the most powerful couples on the planet.

But, before she could find happiness with him, she went through a bad break-up. Her previous boyfriend, Antonio de la Rua, had sued her for $250 million, and then again for $100 million, alleging that, as her manager, he had worked with her for a decade and when she left him and cut professional ties, it cost him financially. Thankfully, the lawsuits were dismissed by the courts, as per E! News.

"I have moved on in my life and could not be happier now," Shakira had said at the time. "I hope this harassment will now come to an end."

For the Hips Don't Lie singer, love is the only thing that can prove the existence of God. "I even had lost my faith for a while. I was becoming as agnostic," she said, as per 60 Minutes. "And it was really hard, because I was always very religious, and for a few years, maybe because—it sounds so corny—I was not feeling the love like it was supposed to be, I started to think that there was no God. And suddenly I meet Gerard and the sun comes out."

Initially, "I thought, he's still a boy, but what can I do," Shakira—who shares a birthday with her paramour—sings in her 2017 song Me Enamoré. She also notes in the song, "I like that beard" and "with you I'd have 10 children, let's start with two children." "I saw him alone, and I dove in," she sings. "I fell in love, I'm in love."
