Sheryl Crow Shares Rare Insight About Her Sons’ Love for Music | She’s Not Sure if They’ll Follow in Her Footsteps

"My 15-year-old, he's got a great ear and can play really well," the singer revealed.

Sheryl Crow recently shared about her talented sons not being inclined to pursue a career in music. The revelations come after the music star opened up about them during the MusiCares 2023 Persons of the Year Gala on February 3. The All I Wanna Do American Singer spilled the beans about her kids' conscious decision to not follow their mother’s footsteps which came as a surprise for many. Crow is a mother of two sons, Wyatt, 15, and Levi, 12 who are equally talented as their mom.

In a word with PEOPLE, the Tomorrow Never Dies singer shared, "I don't know that either one of them really wants to do that, but they're both musical, and I'm one of those obnoxious parents who's like, 'You have to take piano. Do not argue with me about it,'" she said. Revealing the musical inclination of her sons she also said, "But my 15-year-old, he's got a great ear and can play really well." Crow performed with Jackson 5’s for the night at the MusiCares which honored the biggies of the town like the legendary artists, Stevie Wonder and Lionel Richie.

The 60-year-old artist says she has taught her sons about the classics she grew up on influencing their interests. The mother of two adolescents shared, "They're just like, 'Mom, what is this old music?' But they go around humming it and singing it,” as she jokes about it. “My 15-year-old is always like, 'I got sunshine…' So, I feel like I'm doing the right thing. I grew up with it and my 15-year-old is a great bass player, and he's learning James Jamerson just like I did," she added proudly.

When asked if they are going to follow the suit as Crow is passing on the baton of her legacy to them she says, “I think he will always tinker, but he wants to be a marine biologist, so I don't know how to compete with that because it's such an— I don't even know what they do. So I'm happy for him to go save the reefs. That's what he wants to do.”

The singing sensation and actor was flabbergasted when she across the news of her nomination for the grand event. As Crow shared that she was "still a little bit in shock" after getting nominated alongside the likes of George Michael, The White Stripes, Missy Elliott, Cyndi Lauper, Iron Maiden, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine, A Tribe Called Quest, amongst other legendary music contributors. Expressing her gratitude over it she told the outlet: "It feels like I've been nominated for an Oscar for a 30-year movie. So it's really cool. I'm really honored."

Previously in 2021, the artist appeared on the podcast Making Space with Hoda Kotb as she opened up about being a mother and how her mum inspired her to believe in her instincts. The musician said that it was a "life raft" from her mother who demonstrated that she didn't have to be married to start a family of her own. Recalling the support during adoption her mother told her, "You have a family around you who will stand at the altar with you at baptism and say, 'We are his community or her community.'"
