"I couldn't have gotten through it without them," Simon Cowell recalled about the support he had from his partner and son.
Simon Cowell's longtime partner and the mother of his only child Lauren Silverman helped him heal after suffering several accidents in recent years. The veteran producer and reality TV judge Simon Cowell suffered a bike accident in 2022 and was hospitalized. "Simon broke his arm and is now recovering well," a source told Variety at the time.
The former American Idol judge had also broken his back in a bike accident in 2020 and had to take a break from TV for surgery and extensive rehab and recovery. Through the difficult ordeal, he depended on Silverman and his 9-year-old son Eric to get him through the difficult ordeal.
The Britain’s Got Talent judge spoke about the difficulties he faced after his first accident in an interview with Extra TV. Cowell had to undergo a five-hour surgery to repair his spine and he said he "was so embarrassed about coming home looking about 100 [years old] because I couldn't walk, and I have these metal rods in my back and these screws," he said.
Cowell was always worried how his son would see him. "I said, 'Lauren, I just don't know how to explain it to [Eric],' " he continued. "She obviously said something to him because he came in … and I was lying in bed and he said, 'Daddy, you're like Iron Man,' and I thought that was the sweetest thing and it meant a lot." He attributed his recovery to his family, noting, "Lauren was amazing. Both her and Eric, they were like my support. I couldn't have gotten through it without them, so we got closer."

A source told PEOPLE that Cowell and Silverman were meant to be together, calling the pair "soulmates." "They have fun together, as well as being each other's rock," the insider added. "They are both passionate [about one another], but really do bring out the very best in each other. As a family, they all have such an incredible bond."
Cowell's family agreed to this as well; his brother, Tony Cowell, shared similar sentiments, telling the outlet, "Since having his son, Eric, with Lauren, Simon has completely changed his life and, for the first time, he appears to be happy and content." He added that their late mother would have been "overjoyed" by the engagement news. "She always wanted him to settle down with a family. I picture her looking down and saying, 'and about time, Simon!'" he said.

The producer is finally ready to settle down and make it official. Cowell proposed to Silverman in 2021 on a beach. He told ET that the couple's son had a hand in their engagement. "One hundred percent he had to coach me," Cowell said. "And we planned it. He was a big part of it." As they all spent time together during the pandemic, Cowell's perspective on life changed. "I think after everything all of us had gone through over the past two years, it has changed our lives in so many ways," he noted at the time. "Family is everything and that is what I kind of took away from it."
