Susan Sarandon is extremely happy with how her family turned out and now refers to herself as a "silly grandmother."
Eva Amurri, Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon's daughter recently starred in Fox's Monarch. She played Sarandon's character's younger version because the mother-daughter duo practically look like twins. Amurri has played characters alongside mom Sarandon in many on-screen appearances. Her character in the 1995 Dead Man Walking was also a younger version of Sarandon's character, with a stark resemblance to her mother, reports Variety.
Sarandon chose to start a family in her late thirties. In October 2017, Sarandon shared details of her experience becoming a mother, recalling the responses she got. She revealed one parent had counseled her against having children because she might damage her career. “I think it was ‘Don’t have the baby,’ as though it would ruin my career, and I was so old anyway,” Sarandon shared with Good Housekeeping, per PEOPLE. “I had my first baby at 39 and my third at 45, and with each child, [people were] like, ‘Are you crazy? Don’t!’ ” added the Rocky Horror Picture Show actress.
Despite the criticism she faced when she decided to have children, Sarandon is extremely happy with how her family turned out. She now refers to herself as a "silly grandmother" and says that her kids "have a lot of sense of humor." Every time she has a serious discussion with her children, the devoted mother even dons a "clown nose" to lighten the situation. "It stops you from getting emotionally loaded,” she said.
The Thelma & Louise actress is particularly close to her lone daughter, and the two have been close their entire lives. Amurri accompanied her mother backstage at both political gatherings and film productions when she was a young girl. "It kind of is almost like being part of the circus," said Amurri about her movie set visits. "There's something really fun and adventurous."
Sarandon raved about her daughter's parenting in 2016 saying that she was "proud" and in awe of her. She told TODAY, "I think that what she's doing is amazing. [...] And she's really a funny kid. She's fierce. She's strong."
Amurri is a mom to a daughter named Marlowe and sons Major and Mateo. Sarandon shares that it's so much easier being a grandparent than it is being a parent. "It's so much easier, so much easier," she laughed. Grandma is apparently not "grandma" to Marlowe, she has another fun nickname. "Honey is her grandma name," grinned Amurri.
"I'm much more of a structured parent," said the mom-to-three who has a different perspective on mothering. Amurri added that she stepped back from acting because she wanted to focus on her children. "I just wanted to be putting my energy into something that I felt was just constructing something more positive in my life and for my daughter, especially," she said about stepping back. However, it didn't deter her from coming back onscreen and she made a comeback last year starring alongside mom Sarandon in Fox's Monarch.
