This sweet brother transformed his sister into a water princess and made her the queen at her prom.
Having a big brother can be a joy. Imagine going to middle or high school on the first day and knowing people won't mess with you because your elder brother would be there to protect you. Or, having a dependable shoulder to lean on during the hard parts of life. A loving big brother would ensure that their little sister is happy and support her no matter what.
One big brother came to the aid of his younger sister who wanted to go to her school prom but couldn't afford to rent a dress. His parents weren't financially stable enough to make it happen but he didn't want his sister to be disappointed. After all, going to prom is one of the best parts of the school for some people. They look forward to it all year.
Maverick Francisco Oyao's Facebook post about a ball gown he made for his sister, Lu Asey Keanna Oyao, went viral, earlier this year. In his post, Maverick wrote that he took up this project when the school confirmed that they will be holding a junior-senior prom in 2020. Lu was excited but worried as her family didn't have enough money to rent a ball gown. However, she wanted to go as it was her last year in junior high school, as per Cosmopolitan Philippines.
Her elder brother put his creative hat on and while he doubted himself initially, he started watching YouTube tutorials to find out how to make a dress. He was inspired by Filipino fashion designer Michael Cinco’s Spring and Summer Collection. Michael's gowns have been worn by famous global celebrities walking the red carpet. Maverick started making a sketch of a ball gown that had a similar wide-girth skirt.
Day by day, he kept working on the dress and was able to finish it on time. He had doubted himself but he says that God didn't abandon him. He made a draft, bought the materials, and went to work on it.
He started by cutting out nine pieces of blue fabric, decorated each of them with satin ribbon, and then sewed them all together to make the skirt. The detailing in the dress shows how talented and dedicated a designer he is.
He bejeweled plastic flowers painstakingly to adorn the dress with them. The dress looks equally like a bloomed flower and as waves, transforming Lu into a beautiful water princess. The images from her prom show that she was the show stopper at the event.
He says he also received financial help from some people to finish the project on time but doesn't mention their names. "You already know who you are," he said. The post in Tagalog was translated into English. The brother and sister duo live in the Philippines.
"I've done my part very well as your supportive brother and I will never get tired of supporting you, that's your brother's promise to you," said Maverick, originally in Tagalog.
