In a surprising coincidence, a baby girl was born on the same day as one of the most tragic days in modern history.
In a unique coincidence this year, a baby was born on 9/11 at 9.11 pm weighing 9lb 11oz. The couple that was blessed with the miracle of life has been overjoyed with their baby, who they've named Christina. While the country commemorated a day of tragedy because of the September 11 attacks, which took place in 2001, this Tennessee couple received good news.
The hospital staff at Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital in Germantown, Tennessee told the Independent that they were surprised to see the matching birthdate, weight, and time of birth of the child.
Mother-of-four Cametrione Malone-Brown, who gave birth to Christina, said, "Christina is a little miracle during such a sad time. She is a new life amongst the devastation and destruction."
Her father, Justin Brown, added, “We heard the doctor announce the time of birth 9/11 and then when they weighed Christina, we heard gasps of astonishment when everyone realized Christina weighed 9/11, was born at 9:11 and on 9/11. It was really exciting, especially to find some joy during a day of such tragedy.”
Amazing! Baby Christina was born on 9/11 at 9:11 p.m. weighing 9 lbs 11 oz. Her proud parents say while her birth is on a tragic day she represents the miracles in the world. A nurse w/35+ yrs experience says she’s never witnessed a DOB, weight & birth time all the same! pic.twitter.com/sG914KB11C

One of the staff, Rachel Laughlin, who has worked in the maternity section of the hospital for more than 35 years, called the birth a “historic event”. She told ABC, "I've never seen it in 38 years. It just makes her a special, even more special little girl that she already is." She called it more special since this was the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. “9/11 was such a time of tragedy, Christina is a little bundle of hope and happiness," she added, according to the Independent.
Her parents said that they will inform their child about the significance of the date of her birth when she is older. On a Facebook post shared by the hospital, Christina's mother said, "We had emotions and we felt it. Then 18 years later on that day 9/11, you find triumph; you find a piece of joy from a day that was so drastic and still hurts."
The baby's mother was scheduled for a cesarean section and arrived at the delivery room just before 9 pm. "Time was just rolling and then all of sudden we heard 'wah!' and they called it '9:11' and then she got on the table and all of a sudden, 'Oh my God she weighs 9 11,'" Justin Brown said, according to Good Morning America. "It's a piece of joy on a day that's so tragic," Cametrione said.
According to ABC, the doctor told the parents, "Oh my God! This is 9-11, 9-11, 9-11 baby."
The little baby girl has to be kept in the NICU to get extra oxygen, the parents were reported as saying by CBS. They have three more kids and are excited to introduce her to her older siblings.
On 9/11, families of the victims, of which there were thousands, gathered in New York at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Names of those who died due to the two plane crash at the World Trade Center were read and two minutes of silence was observed.
