A hormone is a chemical messenger in the human body. Endocrine glands secrete small amounts of hormones that are released in the bloodstream and carried to different parts of the body to carry out various bodily functions. Over or underproduction of hormones and disrupted communications can contribute to extensive alteration of body functions, reports Emed. As a result, you could gain weight in different and specific parts of the body from improperly functioning glands or organs.

If you have been trying to lose weight for a long time but to no avail, maybe you have a hormonal body type. You have probably been getting different kinds of advice from many people. Some of them, you might have tried too. But the fact of the matter is if a person has lost weight with the help of a certain kind of approach, there are good chances that it might not be suitable for your body type. Bodyweight and body type have a lot to do with hormones. The hormonal body types are Adrenal, Thyroid, Liver, and Ovary.

Find out what your body type reveals about your hormones.

1. Adrenal

Adrenal

Characterized by: weight gain in stomach, breasts, arms

What does it mean: Adrenal body type is a result of the cortisol hormones storing fat in the middle part of your body (stomach, back). This hormone consumes protein and fats from the lower portions of your body like legs and stores it in the middle part. It is important to know that hormones produced by adrenal glands help balance blood pressure and blood sugar and stimulate energy production at the cellular level. If the adrenal glands become exhausted, the body will no longer handle stress efficiently, contributing to physical, mental, and emotional symptoms, claims Hormonal Rebalance Centre. A constant state of stress makes it extremely difficult for people with this body type to lose weight. Your sleep patterns are disturbed, you find it difficult to get out of bed, you keep having cravings.

What to do: Trying to do strenuous exercise or an extreme diet could worsen your condition as it could put your body in greater stress. The healing procedure starts with your mind and emotions. Try to cut down daily stressors, practice gratitude, sleep, and also cut down on sugar.

2. Thyroid

Thyroid

Characterized by: Overall body fat

What does it mean: The thyroid hormone affects practically every cell in the body and regulates our entire metabolic rate, reports Hormonal Rebalance Centre. This body type is a result of the malfunction of thyroid glands. Due to this, people find it either very hard to lose weight or the opposite. People with thyroid body type have the weight distributed evenly but they might experience fluctuations or probably putting on an inordinate amount of weight without any evident reason.

What to do: With regular professional help, you could manage these symptoms. Cutting down on sugar, processed food is something to start with. But it is important to know that under this body type, your thyroid glands start to malfunction, therefore, it is imperative to follow your doctor's advice.

3. Liver

Liver

Characterized by: Stomach fat

What does it mean: If your body is capable of processing overconsumption of alcohol or processed food, fluid starts to accumulate in the middle section of the body, specifically the stomach, which causes the commonly known "beer belly." The liver, the largest organ of the body, is a major organ of filtration and detoxification. As per emed, some of its hundreds of functions are associated with digestion, sugar storage and regulation, immune system responses, and important components of the blood. If the liver becomes damaged or weak, it can cause a protruding belly, principally caused by the accumulation of fluid, not fat. From insomnia to gall bladder problems, a liver body type can cause major harm.

What to do: Unlike people with adrenal body type, it is not very difficult to lose weight if you have a liver body type. To start with, reduce consumption of alcohol substantially. Cut down on fried or processed food. Change your diet and switch to a healthier, detoxifying diet.

4. Ovary

Ovary

Characterized by: Heavier hips, thighs

What does it mean: The first thing it means is that men do not have an ovary body type because it is governed by imbalances in estrogen production. People with the ovary type store weight in their lower stomach, lower back, hips, and thighs. People with ovary body type suffer extreme symptoms of menstruation. Your body stores weight in the lower region of your body because your ovaries produce estrogen. You always crave to binge on food, your sugar consumption has a toxic impact on your body and gives rise to these symptoms.

What to do: You could start by cutting down on sugar and gradually cutting down processed and junk food. The sugar you're consuming is creating more hormones and giving rise to cravings. So to satisfy cravings, start healthy snacking. Later, you might try some basic exercises, however, get in touch with your doctor to know more about how to lose weight effectively.
