Touch is such an important aspect of our lives. It's part of being human. It's what reminds us that we are connected, especially with your loved ones.

When you're with your partner, it's the touch that becomes far more potent. The various touches we share with them reminds us of the bond we have. Dr. Tiffany Field, director of the Touch Research Institute (TRI) at the University of Miami/Miller School of Medicine, claims that holding hands is one of the most powerful forms of touch, according to HuffPost. This is because the skin is a sense organ and needs stimulation, much like the ears and the eyes.

But what you may not know is how that very touch also reveals a lot about your relationship. In fact, how you hold hands with your partner can say so much about the kind of connection you have with them. Whether you are linking fingers while taking a romantic stroll or clasping on to each other's hands at the movies, it says a lot about your relationship.

Palm to palm

When your partner holds your hand by making your palms touch, it's a sign that your partner is the type who may not be expressive or engage in much public display of affection, but that doesn't mean he loves you any less. It also shows your relationship is based more on affection than passion. Both of you value the small intimate moments. That doesn't mean there isn't a spark. The passion will build in the bedroom and you'll find that your partner is far more expressive during sex. However, if your partner doesn't initiate more physical intimacy, it could be a sign that he sees you more as a friend than as a lover.

A one-finger hook indicates playfulness in the relationship. You both like to have fun with each other and enjoy bringing out each other's inner child. No matter how old you are, you can be found giggling over small inside jokes and like being with each other a lot. This playfulness could even translate into more light-hearted foreplay in the bedroom. Yet, both of you are mature enough to give each other space because you have immense trust in each other. On the flip side, a very relaxed hold on the finger could mean that one partner is not as invested in the relationship as the other is.

Finger lock

If you interlock your fingers with your partner firmly, it's a sign of intense passion and intimacy. It shows that you and your partner share a deeply physical attraction. However, you also have a deep bond with each other. This makes both of you feel a stronger connection when you are in bed. Interlocked fingers with one hand squeezing too tightly can also indicate a bit of protectiveness that might border on possessiveness. However, if one hand is too relaxed, it could mean that you or your partner are losing interest in one another.

Arms linked

Linked arms may seem more of a formal gesture but not if it is done every day. If you link arms with your partner, it's a sign that both of you have each other's backs. You share a very "us against the world" attitude. There's an understanding that both of you have very different tastes but when it comes to defending each other, both of you won't hesitate to back them up. More often than not, you'll find that when you're with them, the whole world just melts away and it's just you two. This can lead to some very passionate sex. However, depending on how tightly your partner grasps your arm, it could be a sign of insecurity or a sign of protectiveness.
