Actor, beloved co-star, and comedian exemplar Tim Conway, who starred on The Carol Burnett Show, died on Tuesday morning in Los Angeles at the age of 85. He had been suffering from a long illness before his death, said Howard Bragman, Conway's representative, according to CNN. He was not suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's disease, he added.

The comedian's career spans decades of making people laugh. He won three Emmys for acting on the show that made him so famous and a fourth one for being on the writing team. He is also known for co-starring in several Disney live-action comedies during the '70s, such as The Apple Dumpling Gang and The Shaggy D.A. He had also starred in the comedy McHale's Navy from 1962 to 1966. More recently, he starred and won Emmys for his roles in the sitcoms Coach and 30 Rock. He had also given voice as Barnacle Boy for Spongebob Squarepants. He was known for his deadpan expression and innocent demeanor.

He began his career in TV after being found by comedian/actress Rose Marie of The Dick Van Dyke Show. She helped him get an audition for The Steve Allen Show. While Rose Marie died in 2017 one of her children tweeted about Conway on the Rose Marie-Official Twitter account.

"So sad to hear about Tim Conway. 'Discovering' Tim and managing him for a time, was a source of tremendous pride for Mother. He was, after all, one of the funniest men on the planet! My heart goes out to his family," they tweeted.

His daughter and five sons announced his demise in a statement to USA Today. "The love he gave us, and the laughter he gave the world will never be replaced but will be remembered forever," Kelly Conway said. "He is at peace now, but I will miss him every second of every day until we meet again in heaven. We knew he would have to leave us someday, but that day came too soon."

His colleagues and other stars from Hollywood paid tribute to the man.

Carol Burnett said, "I am heartbroken. He was one in a million, not only as a brilliant comedian but as a loving human being." "I cherish the times we had together both on the screen and off. He’ll be in my heart forever," she told USA Today in a statement.

Vicki Lawrence, another star from The Carol Burnett Show, remembered her friend as "hysterical, crazy, bold, fearless, humble, kind, adorable" She said she was "lucky to ever have shared a stage with him. Harvey [Korman] and Tim are together again. The angels are laughing out loud tonight.”

Conway's improvisational comedy made many a co-star, including the late Harvey Korman, laugh hard, according to CNN.

“The man was pure comedy. Riotously funny,” writer and producer Judd Apatow tweeted. “I finally got to see him work when he guest starred on The Larry Sanders show and he was all I dreamed he would be. As kind as he was funny. He will be missed.”

“Tim Conway made me laugh,” Jamie Lee Curtis wrote in a tweet. “A great gift and talent. Carol, my friend, my hand in yours as you miss him.”

“Tim Conway was the most hilarious and gentle soul. What a loss to everyone who knew him. I was one of the lucky few,” comedian David Steinberg said in a statement to The Wrap. “I will miss him so. RIP.”

Fans also honored the man with their tweets.

The actor had retired in 2016 due to health reasons and wasn't able to appear on the 50th-anniversary celebration of The Carol Burnett Show, which aired in December 2017. His daughter Kelly had been estranged from his second wife, Charlene Conway. The duo had fought a legal fight over his medical care, according to Yahoo News. During that time, his daughter Kelly had revealed that he did have dementia. The duo had come to an understanding later and the issue was resolved. Tim had his wife Charlene and another daughter Jackie with him at his deathbed.

He gave a lot of good years of his life entertaining people and they loved him back for his humor and charm.
