Country music sensation Tim McGraw met his wife Faith Hill in 1994 when they talked to each other for a brief few seconds at a New Faces Show in Nashville. Two years later on June 26, 1996, McGraw proposed to Hill on stage while they were together on a tour. The 55-year-old musician’s journey to discovering his soulmate had many twists and turns and McGraw finally opened up about the details in an interview with Country Living. McGraw also shared that he expresses his gratitude and love towards Hill by serving her breakfast in bed every morning.

"I try to find something that's interesting for my wife," he told ABC News. "Of course, breakfast in bed's always pretty good." Hill and McGraw are also proud parents to three children named Gracie, Audrey Caroline, and Maggie Elizabeth.

McGraw revealed that he popped up the marriage proposal to Hill on multiple occasions as they dated but was rejected every time. She believed that a relationship with another country musician won’t work out for her. In the spring of 1996, the duo was on Spontaneous Combustion Tour when they shared a kiss backstage. Hill broke up her engagement to Scott Hendriks soon after and got together with McGraw. The There You’ll Be crooner was determined to win Hill over. He recalled, “And she said, 'You're asking me to marry you at a country music festival in a trailer house? And I said, 'Well, it's pretty appropriate if you think about it.' She goes, 'Are you serious?' And I said, 'Well, yeah, I'm serious.'”

The couple didn’t always have an easygoing relationship. The country singer recounts how he struggled with alcoholism in the past and if it wasn’t for the support of his wife, he would have been dead. Being a naturally shy person he had to take a shot of Jack Daniels to calm his nerves before every stage performance and eventually became dependent on alcohol.

Tim admitted his battle with alcoholism in an interview with Esquire and said, “I remember a moment when I was getting out of bed and going to the liquor cabinet and taking a big shot at 8:00 in the morning and thinking, 'I have to wake the kids up.' I went straight to my wife and said, 'This is where I'm at.'"

McGraw also revealed that he was afraid of being on stage and couldn’t perform without alcohol. When he told his wife about it she helped him calm down and gradually with her support, he was able to recover. The country singer has been sober since 2008.

McGraw relies on a healthy diet and regular exercising to maintain his fitness and doesn’t turn to alcohol for calming himself anymore. The loving couple can be seen posting about their relationship and each other on their respective social media account pretty often. “Faith saved my life in a lot of ways — from myself more than anything. I can go down a dark road sometimes when you’re not feeling good about yourself, and she pulls me out. My wife makes me a better man,” McGraw said fondly of his wife.
