Jennifer Meyer and Tobey Maguire are proving that exes can be friends and amazing co-parents.
In spite of his role as a crime-fighting web-slinger in the Spider-Man films, Tobey Maguire's greatest joy in life is being a father. “When she smiles, it’s the most fantastic thing ever,” said Maguire, 47, told Men’s Journal of Ruby Sweetheart, his and ex-fiancée Jennifer Meyer's daughter they welcomed in 2006, according to PEOPLE. “But it’s not like I didn’t expect that. I expected to fall completely in love with my child,” he says. Maguire acknowledged that becoming a father had altered both his outlook and his way of life. He admitted that his desire to be near his child would affect even his professional choices.
However, after the split between Maguire and Meyer, she said that he is her best friend, and she has words of wisdom for any other ex-couples struggling with co-parenting. “Remember that you love your kids equally more than anything in the world and that you want the best for them,” the 41-year-old exclusively told Us Weekly. “And if they see parents that don’t get along or fight, then they’re going to be unhappy, and nobody wants unhappy children.” The 45-year-old jewelry designer spoke candidly about her divorce from the actor six years after their breakup during an appearance on The World's First Podcast. When asked about her relationship with her ex-husband, Jennifer were all smiles. "It's been the most beautiful experience of my life having this beautiful breakup," she confessed. I would literally do anything in the world for Tobey. He is my brother. I love him to death and we have the most beautiful family."
Meyer noted that although the two may now have a harmonious relationship, learning to co-parent their children Ruby, 15, and Otis, 13, wasn't always simple. "The work is a motherf—ker. I'm not gonna lie. And we did a lot of work to stay on track to stay a family," she admitted. Meyer went so far as to call Maguire the "best ex-husband a girl could ever have" in a podcast from 2018. "The day begins with the kids and ends with the kids," she gushed "So you manage to get your time in and work hard in the middle, you know? They’re really amazing kids, so we figure it out together." Jennifer concluded her sentiments, "It just manages to work out really well."
Apart from a few ups ad downs in terms of co-parenting, Maguire considers himself to be extremely happy with being a dad. “I love being a dad!” said a glowing Maguire. “I love my daughter…yeah, it’s definitely amazing! It’s like everybody says, all the clichés are true--it’s indescribable and you just have to be there to understand it. You know, you don’t really get it until you’re there”, a source told PEOPLE. Maguire and Meyer appeared for pictures at his ex-Los boyfriend's Angeles diamond store opening in 2018, which Maguire attended. Meyer wished Maguire a happy Father's Day on Instagram, calling the actor her "best friend." "To the best baby daddy. All is can say is no matter what happens in life, to relationships, etc.... choose a dad for your kids that you can count on forever," she wrote in the caption of a family photo.
