Tom Cruise Has No Say in Estranged Daughter Suri Cruise’s College Despite Paying | They Haven’t Met in a Decade

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes split in 2012, and it was reported that Holmes wanted to protect Suri from Scientology, a controversial religion.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' daughter, Suri, is now a 16-year-old who is already applying to colleges. The teenager has already started the college admission process. According to CafeMom, the young teen is looking forward to a career in fashion and her mom is very happy with the decision. The All We Had actress is reportedly taking an active role in helping her daughter with the college applications, but according to reports, her father will not be weighing in on any decisions. The 60-year-old actor has been estranged from his daughter for 10 years since 2013, one year after he and Katie divorced.

The mother-daughter duo lives in New York City and reports state that her daughter will pick an institute in the same city so they can be close to each other. As for Suri's relationship with her father who is a Scientologist, it has been alleged that they do not have any real bond. They have not spent time together in a decade and the young teen does not go to see his movies either. Despite the estrangement, Cruise has reportedly maintained his responsibilities when it comes to financial obligations to the mother and daughter. Tom Cruise is believed to be paying for Suri's tuition costs. As part of the divorce settlement, the Top Gun star must pay his ex-wife $400,000 a month in support until their daughter turns 1 as well as cover all of Suri's expenses, including medical, dental, insurance, education, college, and other extracurricular costs.

Cruise and Holmes first began dating in 2005 and got engaged after just seven weeks of dating. According to Stylecaster, they welcomed their daughter in April 2006. While Holmes was raised Catholic, she reportedly began converting to Cruise’s Church of Scientology. However, the two split in 2012, and it was reported that Holmes wanted to protect her daughter from the controversial religion.

A source told PEOPLE that Holmes was increasingly unhappy in her marriage as she realized “she no longer had the life she wanted, in terms of her career, her way of life, everything." The insider added, “It’s clear that Tom can be very persuasive and is very powerful. But once she decided to go, she was done.” Both Holmes and Cruise have remained tight-lipped about the exact reason behind their divorce but sources claim that Cruise was left shocked by Holmes' decision.
