Suri's parents, Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, have been divorced since 2012 and no longer speak to each other.

Superstar Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, his third wife to whom he was married between 2006 and 2012, cut ties completely when they went separate ways, as per Mirror UK. The Top Gun actor is a father-of-three but has a relationship with only two of his children; he has cut off all contact with both Holmes and Suri, who will turn 17 on April 18.
Holmes sought a divorce from Cruise in 2012, citing the religion Cruise practices, Scientology, for coming in the way of their family. Holmes says that Suri, only six-years-old at the time, did realize that her parents were divorcing, but did not speak publicly about the downfall of the relationship.
"Obviously she is old enough to know that things in her life are changing," a source said of Suri at the time to PEOPLE. "But she knows, as she always has, that both of her parents love her enormously and will always be there for her."
Holmes is now a single mother, and has been raising Suri on her own in New York. She was apparently "dissatisfied" with Cruise for not trying hard enough to be there for Suri, as per Mirror UK. The last time Cruise was seen with Suri was when he took the then-six-year-old girl to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, in August 2012.
According to Samantha Domingo, a former scientology follower who left the organization in 2004 and spoke out in an interview with Mercury News, Cruise is forbidden from having a relationship with his biological daughter. Domingo had opened up to Us Weekly about the last time Cruise was seen with his daughter. "Maybe he did it for a photo op, to make it seem like he was connected so he wouldn’t be criticized," she told the outlet.
Another source had told Us Weekly that members of the church of Scientology are allowed to see their children of other faiths if they wanted to, but Cruise chooses not to. Domingo added that Scientologists believe in reincarnation so they think that "Suri’s not really his daughter — she’s just a spiritual being in his daughter’s body."
He has two older adopted children, Connor, 28, and Isabella, 30, with his second ex-wife, Nicole Kidman.
A spokeswoman for the Church has denied Domingo's claims calling them “fiction” and adding, "Everything about your inquiry misrepresents the Church of Scientology, its practices, and the lifestyle of its ministry."
Some sources report that while the Mission Impossible actor didn't get involved in Suri's life previously, he wants to amend that and develop his relationship with his youngest child.
"I think enough time has passed now that the sting of Katie leaving him has dissipated," an insider tells American magazine In Touch, as per Newidea. "It’s just time. It was heartbreaking and humiliating for Tom when Katie left him. He must have felt lied to."
Holmes reportedly will pass on potential partners if they don't click with her daughter. "Her No. 1 priority is meeting someone who can build a strong relationship with Suri," a source told In Touch. "If they don’t tick that box, Katie’s just not interested. Katie will only get serious with a guy who she knows will be there for her daughter."
