Veteran actor Tom Hanks has been entertaining us for more than three decades and any honor bestowed upon him wouldn't be enough. From playing the iconic Forrest Gump to a man Cast Away on an island, or even the beloved Mister Rogers, the range of his acting ability has wowed audiences across the world. Known as the nicest man in Hollywood, he's also a devoted husband and father. He doesn't shy away from telling his family about how much he loves them either.

Recently, when the actor was honored with the 2020 Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards, he became visibly emotional when giving his speech. He spoke about his beloved wife, Rita Wilson, who also appeared to tear up, and children, and thanked them for their support even as he was overwhelmed with emotion.

"A man is blessed with a family sitting down front like that, a wife who is fantastic in every way, who has taught me what love is ... Kids who are braver and stronger and wiser than their old man is," he said, according to Time. "I can't tell you how much your love means to me," he said. He tried to pin the tears on cold medicine, but nobody was judging him for shedding them. "I swear to God, I'm not nearly this emotional at home," he was quoted as saying by the Hollywood Reporter.

Married to Wilson since 1988, the couple has three children, who were present at the event where their father was being honored. Hanks' eldest son, Colin, was born to his first wife Samantha Lewes. The Green Mile actor made his family the star of the show instead of putting the focus on himself. They were sitting out front, smiling at him while he looked at them from the stage and shared this beautiful moment with them.

At the event, his family wasn't the only one who wished him well and had a reason to smile on his behalf. He was presented with the award by Charlize Theron, who had a story of her own about the Saving Private Ryan actor. Her story showed how kind he is to people, whether he knows them or not.

The Mad Max: Fury Road actress said that when she auditioned for a part as a young actress, Hanks came to her rescue. She was about to have a panic attack and so Hanks apologized and said he has to leave the room for a few minutes. He acted like he was the one who needed time but the break was meant to be for her, according to GoodMorningAmerica. Hanks explained during his speech that "the reason I had to leave the room for five minutes was to go and tell the other producers that 'this woman that I'm auditioning right now is gonna be in this movie somehow, so we gotta figure out how its gonna work' -- and she was."

Meanwhile, those who had been watching the awards ceremony were taken by surprise when the Captain Phillips actor became emotional. "HARD TO NOT CRY WHEN TOM HANKS CRIES," said one person on Twitter.
