Actor Tom Selleck has been a household name since starring in Magnum P.I. and he continues to be in our hearts thanks to his role as Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods. Despite his fame and success, he is one of those people who lives humbly and prioritizes his family over everything else. Instead of a glitzy lifestyle in Hollywood, he prefers his California ranch where he stays with his wife, Jillie Mack.

He married Mack in 1987, at the height of his career, and kept his marriage away from prying eyes all these years. He has always maintained that family life was the most important thing for him. Selleck has taken a back seat from work often for family and has been one of the most respected actors in Hollywood for decades. The actor, however, attributes all the credit to his faith and God. While he has worked hard for everything he has it has been a blessing from God, the actor revealed.

His career could have started much earlier than it did. When he was in college he got a contract from the Twentieth Century Fox, but he got drafted in the United States Army in 1967 and served through until 1973 in the California National Guard, according to CBN News. Though it set his acting career back by a few years, Selleck is proud to be a veteran.

"I am a veteran, I'm proud of it. I was a sergeant in the US Army infantry, National Guard, Vietnam era. We're all brothers and sisters in that sense," he said.

When he was ready to go back to this old life, it was a hard process since people had moved on. It took a few tries but he landed a lead role in the famous 80s crime drama, Magnum P.I. and continued to let God be his guide.

"A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps," he said. "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time."

The actor became so famous that he was featured in the People magazine as one of the most good looking men in the industry. From awards to accolades, he had everything but never did he leave his faith in the higher power.

"As good as this business has been to me, that’s not what life is about. Life is about more important things. You know, we’ve all struggled as we get successful in this business to balance that, I certainly have," Selleck said, according to Beliefnet.

Tom Selleck has tried to live a life that is ethical and one that is in the Lord's path despite the fame and money that was his to have. "I’ve tried very hard to conduct myself in an ethical way because that’s important to my stability now…we’re a culture that’s so centered on the individual. The culture says that basically nothing is more important than the way you feel," the actor said, according to God Updates.

He portrays the patriarch in the Reagan family in Blue Bloods, a show about a family of cops, and he often prays on the show as part of his role, something that is quite close to who he is in real life too. His faith may have been shaky at times, and well, whose isn't? but the greatest thing is that the actor carries it within himself.
