On May 12, Bertinelli formally announced her and Vitale's separation alleging "irreconcilable differences" as the cause.
Tom Vitale and Valerie Bertinelli are now legally divorced, over a year after Valerie Bertinelli requested a formal separation. She is now celebrating that 'single life'. According to PEOPLE, Bertinelli, 62, posted a video from an airport terminal on Twitter on Tuesday night as she prepared to take a flight to visit her son 33-year-old son Wolfgang Van Halen — she revealed, "My lawyer just called. The papers are all signed. They're about to be filed." Added Bertinelli: "On 11/22/22, I am officially f------ divorced. Happily divorced. Finally. It's finally over."

On November 24, 2021, the Hot in Cleveland and Food Network celebrity filed for formal separation. On May 12, Bertinelli formally announced her and Vitale's separation by filing for divorce at the Los Angeles Superior Court of California, alleging "irreconcilable differences" as the cause. After several years of courtship, the actress wed Vitale, a financial planner, in January 2011. There is a prenuptial agreement in place, even if the couple doesn't have any children together. In September, Bertinelli sold her wedding band and the Jimmy Choo strappy shoes she wore during her nuptials to Vitale, marking a significant step in the separation. She shared a picture of a few items she was turning over to upscale retailer The RealReal at the moment.
Although they had been apart since December 2019, the pair first made their breakup official in November 2021. Bertinelli's second spouse is named Vitale. From 1981 until 2007, she was initially wed to the late rock legend Eddie Van Halen. Eddie lost dead from cancer on October 6, 2020. On the TODAY show in early January, Bertinelli disclosed that she has been having difficulties ever since her ex-husband Eddie Van Halen passed away in October 2020. Since the rock star's demise, she remarked, "it's been rough" and "very bittersweet." Despite getting married in 1981, Bertinelli and Van Halen later divorced in 2007. They first separated in 2001. Wolfgang, who is now 29 years old, was born to them in 1991. After their breakup, Bertinelli and the late Van Halen maintained a cordial relationship, as per ET.
Following a protracted divorce with her estranged ex, Bertinelli made the decision to list her Hollywood Hills property house which she advertised for $2.5 million. When her ex requested $50,000 per month in spousal maintenance, Bertinelli, according to court records acquired by PEOPLE, filed a 13-page motion to separate her marital status from money matters.
In addition to contesting the legality of the prenup they both signed in 2010, Vitale, who was married to Bertinelli for more than ten years, attempted to prevent Bertinelli from getting spousal support. Bertinelli declared that she had no wish to remarry in the midst of the argument. "I am gonna be more than happy to be happily divorced and spend the rest of my life alone," she told Hoda Kotb on the Today show in June. "I'll be happy that way. Well, with my six cats and my dog and my son, and hopefully one day grandchildren."
