A gut-wrenching video making the rounds on the internet over the past couple of days shows a huge crowd of people singing the Ukrainian national anthem and waving the nation's flag ahead of Russia's devastating attack.

Shared by multiple internet users on both Twitter and Reddit, the 23-seconds-long video is said to show "people singing the Ukrainian national anthem in Kramatorsk, Donetsk oblast, in resistance to the Russian aggression" before President Vladimir Putin launched a major assault on the country early Thursday morning. Sirens can also be heard wailing in the background of the video, giving the stirring clip an overall ominous feeling.

"This is sad man… Many of those people are living in their last moments…," commented Reddit user, InstanceWild. "War is not just the solution. No to war," wrote rambunctiousoutset_ while lordofbud countered that "When war comes to your land, saying no does nothing." Reddit user, siccoblue agreed, writing: "Absolutely. There's a reason they've straight up said 'you will not see our spines, you will look us in the face.' This is actually fu**ing devastating. And keep in mind that you have the best view of anyone in history of exactly what is going down."

"Just what you've seen on Reddit today when compared to WWII is alien levels of intelligence," they continued in the comment. "Make sure you don't let that intelligence become background noise. This could very well be you singing in front of the White House, or whatever respective building is in your country. Don't let the cries of these people become another tick on your 2022 calendar." Reddit user SkyXDay made another poignant point in a comment that reads: "As patriotic as it is to protect your homeland, this is disheartening. People on both sides will die for one man's narcissistic agenda to a failed political ideal."

"Politicians fu** up everyone's lives every single time due to their arrogance and ego. Who goes to war? Common man in the name of fighting for their country like we living in the 12th century. Who suffers? Common people. Who wins? Politicians. Fu** governments. Time for an overhaul of this pathetic criminal system. Who needs them? What good have they done aside from spending your hard-earned money on stupid stuff?" asked Accurate-Shirt6857.

According to the Associated Press, after unleashing a catastrophic attack on Ukraine by air, land, and sea on Thursday, Russia pressed its invasion of Ukraine to the outskirts of the capital on Friday. The assault—which was anticipated for weeks by the U.S. and Western allies—is the largest ground war in Europe since World War II. "Russia has embarked on a path of evil, but Ukraine is defending itself and won't give up its freedom," Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reportedly tweeted. Appealing directly to Russians watching the invasion from home on Friday morning even as Ukrainian officials braced for an attack on Kyiv, he said: "Tonight, you began bombing residential areas in the hero city of Kyiv. This is like 1941. I want to tell all Russian citizens who are coming out to protest: We hear you, you heard us, you started to believe us. Fight for us. Fight the war."
