She first felt the pirate's spiritual presence back in 2015 when she was lying on her bed at her home.
Growing up we've heard a lot of pirates and treasure-hunt stories like that of Blackbeard. Our kids have also grown up watching movies like the Pirates of the Caribbean, and continue to be fascinated by the adventurous lives of pirates. But here is a person whose fascination went beyond that and ended up in her marrying the ghost of a pirate.
For years, Amanda Teague failed at finding the love of her life in "physical beings," until one day her search came to a rather unusual end. She found the one she was going to grow old with, it was the ghost of an 18th-century Haitian pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow.
Before the 300-year-old pirate, Jack Sparrow, came into her life, she was married to a man and had five kids. However, after the death of her son in 2010, as she revealed in This Morning back in 2019, she became more spiritual. In the hopes of reconnecting with her deceased son, she tried to find a “link to the other side.” During this process, the ghost of the pirate presented himself to Amanda through "energy."
Explaining how she was attracted to Jack's energy, she said, "I've always really struggled with my sexuality from a young age. I would identify as being on the asexual spectrum, so the physical body isn’t really important, it’s more about the energy connection or the chemistry.” She added that more than physical, her relationship with Jack's spirit was "intimate."
The strange relationship that began in 2015 after Amanda felt his presence when she was resting at home in Drogheda, Ireland, finally reached it's new chapter after six months of regular spiritual contact—a wedding!
The Sun reported Amanda revealing that it was Jack who proposed to her. She said, “Jack proposed to me. I told him I wasn’t really cool with having casual sex with a spirit and I wanted us to make a proper commitment to each other." In just two years after meeting, the unusual couple found a Shaman priest and a legal registrar who agreed to make their wedding possible.
Since there are no provisions in the UK for marrying a ghost, Amanda and the deceased pirate of the 17th century tied the knot on a small boat in the Atlantic Ocean (waters are not governed by any particular country) in the presence of their closest friends. Since Jack cannot physically wear a ring, it was fitted to a candle that was used in the ceremony as his representation.
But not all good things last forever. Talking to Irish Mirror as cited by People, the 47-year-old revealed that their relationship ended in the same year that they married. She said, “So I feel it’s time to let everyone know that my marriage is over. I will explain all in due course but for now, all I want to say is be VERY careful when dabbling in spirituality, it’s not something to mess with.”
So what really happened? The Irish Central reported that Amanda noticed that things weren't right between them in just a few months after marriage. “Things happen, you can’t blame everything on the paranormal,” she said and continued, “but I also knew about spiritual attachments and possessions.”
Even though all the people she consulted about her problems told her everything was fine, things only got worse as time passed. In 2018, she even had to be admitted to a hospital for a near-fatal bout of sepsis that required emergency surgery. "He was basically like an energy vampire,” she said believing her now ex-husband being the root of the problem. “When spirits stay around too long, they need an energy source and unfortunately Jack was using me as an energy source,” she added.
Elaborating her horrific experience, Amanda continued, “He had never accepted his own death, so he wanted to continue living through my body. In the end, a lot of red flags, and in the end, after the operation, I realized that it definitely was him and it took me a while to figure out whether he knew or not that it was definitely him, that he intended to harm me.”
She ended the toxic relationship through an exorcism in December 2018. Now healthier and in a better place, Amanda thinks that the experience of being married to a spirit helped her in a lot of ways. "It’s given me a lot of lessons, it’s given me a lot of opportunities that I wouldn’t have had. I do believe that everything happens to us for a reason,” she said.
Free from the controlling spirit of her 300-year-old ex-husband Jack, Amanda has now cut all ties with the underworld of pirates.
