Woman Lies on Shelter Floor and Cradles Dying Pit Bull in Her Arms All Night as He Breathes His Last

Pit bulls have quite a bad reputation; these dogs are thought to be aggressive and ferocious. But that's far from true and this woman, a true animal lover, showed compassion to a pit bull in his last moments.

Dog rescue can often be a heart-breaking job. Many dogs that have been taken off the streets and given shelter still don’t make it. Janine Guido, owner of Speranza Animal Rescue knows this only too well.

According to Goodfullness, Janine recently had taken Watson, a pit bull, under her care A good Samaritan had brought the dog to the shelter after he’d found him lying abandoned and depressed in a park. Watson was a malnourished Pit Bull, covered in sores, and with a cancerous tumor on his hind leg. Unfortunately, cancer had spread and there wasn’t any treatment to save him.

When Janine realized that Watson would probably not make it through the night after he returned from the vet, she decided to cradle the dog in her arms all night. She made Watson sleep beside her and she went to sleep, too, with a heavy heart.

When she woke up the next morning, she could see that he wasn’t going to live for much longer. She comforted the poor dog as he gave up at last, and kissed him goodbye. Unlike many pit bulls that die unwanted and abandoned, Watson at least had the love and comfort of the sweet soul that’s Janine, during his last hours.

Pit bulls often face the worst conditions as they’re considered a breed to fear. For various reasons, these dogs’ reputation has suffered, as have the dogs. Naturally, many people have the utmost sympathy for Watson, but are very glad Janine was around for him. On the YouTube video, one person by the name Terra Wareham has commented, “Absolutely heart breaking.... I only pray everyday that the cruelty ends, dogs are never abandoned but then reality sets in and I realize we will always have ignorant pieces of shit on our Earth that we have to deal with on a regular basis and that's the Heartbreak…”

Kathleen Thorpe said, Oh, Watson, you precious precious baby! You finally have peace and comfort no longer in pain. You are an angel and have crossed the rainbow bridge.  I am crying for you because you and no other fur babies deserve to suffer. Thankfully you had a giving caring soul with you as you passed. Can't stop crying.”

“For decades, pit bulls have been stigmatized as aggressive dogs and are subject to breed specific legislation,” said Julie K. Levy, a University of Florida veterinary professor, according to WUFT. Research has been conducted to dispel the myths regarding pit bulls, and Levy added, “We are hoping to teach the public that they are just dogs and we should assess them individually rather than trying to stereotype them as a group.”

Thankfully, Janine Guido is no stranger to this unfair treatment of the dogs. So, she knew better than anyone that Watson, the dying pit bull, deserved care and love in his final moments. Watch her caring for the dog:
