Ending a marriage can be painful. The complications created due to the separation of two individuals can take a toll on their families as well as on the individuals themselves, emotionally and mentally. It is simply undeniable that women are often affected more than men in these situations. However, a woman who ended her 13-year-old marriage decided to look at divorce very differently. Rather than immersing herself in sorrow, Marie Lollis decided to celebrate the ending of her marriage with a fun-filled photo shoot.
Dressed in a black dress with knee-high boots, Marie Lollis posed happily with a wine glass that read "Finally Divorced Boy Bye." The joyful photoshoot that included burning wedding photos took the internet by surprise and turned Marie Lollis into an internet sensation. "I wanted to show that strong women can be empowered to move on and be happy. It's okay to be happy again," said Marie to DailyMail. The 47-year-old said that her divorce from ex-husband Quinton Eaton was the inspiration behind the idea of the photo shoot. She also mentioned that her sister-in-law Natasha Lollis, who is also the owner of Tiltin' My Lens Photography, helped her conceptualize and shoot the cheeky photos.
"I wanted a way to close a chapter in my life my way, and celebrate finally making it official," said Marie after her 13-year-old marriage ended. In the series of photos, Marie is seen stepping on her framed wedding photo and burning the wedding photo as she walks away. She even posed with her divorce papers with a witty sign in hand that read "I would wish you the best but you already had it."
Marie, who clearly enjoyed the photoshoot also picked out her favorite photo out of the lot. She said that the picture of her laughing with the wine glass that said, "Finally divorced, boy bye," was her favorite.
The 47-year-old took down the internet with her unconventional photography session. The photos caught the attention of a Twitter user who shared it and captioned the pictures "insanely powerful vibes coming from this divorce photo shoot." Followed by the share, Marie became an online sensation with the post receiving more than 59,000 likes and 10,000 retweets. However, Marie who never expected the photos to go viral said that she wanted her photos to represent "strong powerful women" who "have the strength to carry on."
But the journey to this happy divorce was not easy for Marie. She says how her life became difficult when her husband got addicted to drugs. "He got hooked on meth and got around with a wrong crowd. It's sad how meth can change a person. When he was not on that, he was a good man," said Marie, whose ex-husband is currently in jail. She says that their family was separated for years before they finally got divorced recently.
Marie is amazed by the response from women who reached out to her. She is an inspiration for women who want to get out of their bad relationships.
"After everything, I'm stronger and I'm happy with my life," she said. "I'm blessed with a good man and family and close friends."
