As Russian President Vladimir Putin continues his relentless assault on Ukraine, underground bomb shelters across the country are bearing witness to the miracle of new life.

A 23-year-old Ukrainian woman—who has not been named—gave birth to a baby girl in a subway station in Kyiv while shielding from Russian bombardment. According to Independent, baby Mia was born just before 8.30 pm on February 25 after the mother was assisted by on-duty police who heard her screams. One of the officers, Mykola Shlapak, reportedly revealed that police helped the woman deliver the baby before calling an ambulance, which took them both to the hospital.

According to Shlapak, Mia and her mother have stayed at the hospital, and are doing well. A close-up photo of the newborn wrapped in a blanket was shared on Facebook by Ukrainian Parliament member Hannah Hopko who wrote: "Mia was born this night in a stressful environment—[the] bombing of Kyiv. Her mom is happy after this challenging birth-giving and immediately departed to shelter. When Putin kills Ukrainians we appeal to mothers in Russia and Belarus to protest against Russia's war in Ukraine. We defend lives and humanity!"

Mia isn't the only child born into the war Russia is currently waging against its neighbor. According to New York Post, another woman gave birth to a baby girl in an underground maternity ward near the Gostomei Airfield. Ivan Korol, the baby's father, announced his daughter's birth by sharing photos of himself cradling his new bundle of joy and the crowded makeshift ward to Facebook. "Last night under the roar in Gostomei, my wife gave birth to a daughter. Like a star in the dark in such a difficult time... Vikusya, you are amazing! Hero city Kyiv... Glory to Ukraine and our soldiers," Korol, whose profile states that he works for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the city, captioned the post.

Meanwhile, the Starobilsk Multidisciplinary Hospital also announced the birth of a third newborn. "Three warnings of danger per day. In the morning, the shooting of a residential block next to the hospital. In the reception room - the injured... Meanwhile, in the basement of the maternity hospital, in conditions far from those that deserve a new life - a loud cry of a newborn...
It's a boy!" the hospital wrote in the post, sharing gutwrenching photos and a video of the baby boy and his incredible mother.

Resharing the image of the new mom and her baby in the makeshift maternity ward, a member of Parliament called for urgent action. "Ukrainian mothers are now giving birth in shelters and metro stations during air raids. The Blitz of London 1940 is being repeated by Russia in Ukraine in 2022. NATO must make UA no-fly zone," tweeted Anastasia Radina, who heads the body’s anti-corruption committee.
