Lynda Carter, 71, and Robert A. Altman got married in 1984 and have two kids together.

Losing one's beloved spouse can break our hearts in ways that are hard to put back. When we fall in love with someone, we hope to spend the rest of our lives with them. However, death is inevitable and one of the partners is left to pick up the pieces of their heart when the other is gone. Lynda Carter, 71, had to say goodbye to her husband of 37 years, Robert A. Altman, who died at the age of 73. He had been battling cancer.
Carter, who is best known for donning the role of Wonder Woman in the eponymously named film, liked the role of Altman's wife. Outside of Hollywood, she described herself as her "husband’s wife", according to Closer Weekly. The 73-year-old video game company CEO died on February 3, 2021, after a surgical procedure, and the grieving widow honored him in a beautiful post.
"Robert is the love of my life and he always will be," she shared along with the photo of two of them from their younger times. "Our 37 years of marriage were an extraordinary gift. We shared the passion I hope everyone is lucky enough to experience in their lifetime. We protected each other and were each other’s champions always," added the mother-of-two.
"We have always been grateful for the two beautiful lives we created together: our children, Jessica and James. They are the lights of my life, and were the greatest joy of Robert’s. I see so much of Robert in them, and I know he lives on through them."
"To all the fans who have shared their condolences: Jessica, James, and I want to say thank you. We especially love hearing about the times you met Robert at concerts or through his work in the gaming world. He loved meeting you and hearing your stories," she said.
Her note added a message for her late husband as well. She noted that he was "the most honorable person" she had the "privilege" of knowing. "I got to be your wife and the mother of your children. Thank you for giving me all the love in my life. Nothing could prepare our family for this moment, but we will do our best to follow our dreams and honor the legacy you’ve left behind. I will love you always and forever," she added.
The couple got married in 1984, when Altman was a successful lawyer and the Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw actress had ended her run as the famed comic book hero. They faced many challenges during their marriage that could have torn them apart. In the early 1990s, Altman was tried and acquitted for banking fraud and Carter stood by him then. Later, he became the CEO of a multibillion-dollar video game company. He was her pillar when she went to rehab for her addiction to alcohol in 1997, according to Closer Weekly.
A source close to them said, "Lynda kept his illness pretty quiet. She never planned on losing Robert like this. It’s never fair, but they had plans. They were supposed to grow old together."
Carter shared many throwback images of her life with her husband. In one of the photos, which appears to be the last one she shared before his death, she can be seen embracing him at an airport. "Remembering all those moments at the airport when we were living thousands of miles apart, traveling across the country to be together so many years ago," she wrote in the caption.
In one of the posts after his death, the actress wrote about how she misses him on what would have been his 74th birthday. "Today brings back all the wonderful memories of our life together. I didn’t think it was possible to miss you more than I already do, but I feel your presence in my heart. Thinking of you on your birthday, my love," she wrote.
The couple's love looks warm and genuine, and one for the ages. She will forever have the beautiful time she spent with him and the memories will hopefully help her through this difficult time.
