Rocha and the victim share a two-year-old daughter who was present but unharmed during the shooting. A witness took the child to a bathroom moments before the fatal shooting. The suspect violated a restraining order and forced his way into Jordin’s apartment after a “social media disturbance” between the pair according to police.
The family is now determined to get justice for the young mom. “She was one of the strongest women I ever knew,” her brother, Elijah Castillo, said during a press conference Monday, June 5. “Jordin was an amazing young lady who had a whole life ahead of her,” her aunt Mercedes Castillo shared. “Not only that, she was an amazing, amazing mother who went above and beyond to protect Malia even at the last moment of her life. We’re gonna make sure that this monster pays for what he did,” she added.

A GoFundMe has been set up to cover funeral costs and help the family and the two-year-old left behind to deal with this unimaginable tragedy. "Never in a million years did I think we would have to post this," Jordin's sister Tea wrote on the fundraiser. "However we are living our worst nightmare and heartbreak. My baby sister Jordin Miranda was an unfortunate victim of Domestic Violence Sunday afternoon from being harassed and stalked to having her life taken away from us. She loved so many and loved BIG. She was only 20 years old and had a bright future ahead of her. My sister always showed up for everyone and she deserves to have peace. This monster left my sweet niece motherless."
Police say there was a history of domestic violence between the suspect and the victim. According to AZ Central, in a 911 call, the victim was last heard talking to a dispatcher yelling, "I have an order of protection, you're going to be arrested! Please leave!" before several shots and screaming were heard before the call disconnected.
