The 'Property Brothers' star is now a step-father to Deschanel's daughter Elsie and son Charlie.
Jonathan Silver Scott has been ready to be a dad for years now. Speaking to PEOPLE in 2019, the Property Brothers star shared that he wants to start having kids before turning 45 irrespective of whether he finds the perfect partner or not. Luckily, Scott found his love in Zooey Deschanel, and in the three years they've been together, the 44-year-old has proved himself to be a great father figure to the New Girl star's two kids. Speaking to reporters at the 2022 Baby2Baby Gala at the Pacific Design Center on November 12, 2022, Deschanel praised her partner for co-parenting with her and called him "an amazing stepdad."
"He's really very highly qualified for the job," she said.
Scott himself admitted that he's "pretty good" with Deschanel's two kids—son Charlie Wolf, 5, and daughter Elsie Otter, 7—whom she shares with ex-husband Jacob Pechenik. "I'm a magician, or I'm a clown, I could build stuff," he said. The couple started dating after meeting on Carpool Karaoke in 2019 where they were both invited as guests. Speaking to TODAY earlier this year, Scott revealed that he was intrigued by her "from the first moment she walked over to say hello."
In a June 2022 interview with Bustle, Scott shared how he mistakenly gave Deschanel the impression he was ghosting her after wrapping up filming of the Carpool Karaoke episode. He went on a horseback riding trip through the Rocky Mountains during which he could not respond to her texts as he had no cell service. "The very first text I sent when I came out of the mountains was a video I recorded to a Canadian country song that she had mentioned to me," he said. "She was like, 'Oh, this guy likes me.' And we've literally talked every single day since. It's been the best three years of my life."
The relationship also fulfilled Scott's dream of being a dad. "I love it. Just (to) be sitting doing nothing and they'll come over and just plant a big hug on you or say something really sweet," he said of parenting Deschanel's children, at the event on Sunday. "Like, that came out of left field but I will take it!" Scott and Deschanel solidified their partnership by buying and renovating what they described as their "dream home" last year. "We literally designed this house, so that... my hope is it will stay in the family forever, our kids will take it over, and then their kids will take it over," Scott revealed in April. "I waited my whole life to find Zooey, and I've now waited my whole life to have my dream home with someone like Zooey."
